Speer Grandslams
Does anybody use Speer Grandslams. I have used them in my 270 win. ( 130gr) And had very good luck with them, Very accurate. And seem to hold together.Big exit wound, about the size of a softball.

Some of the best performance on game I've ever seen came from a 250gr Speer Grand Slam, fired from a .338 Win Mag, that fully penetrated a big bull elk, lengthwise. It was unbelievable. But true. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Speer's Grand Slam is simply a bonded bullet.....It competes with Swift's Scirocco and shortly with bonded bullets from Hornady and Nosler. If the accuracy suits you.....use it. It's a fine premium bullet.
I do not consider it the equal to Swift's A-Frame however.....a bonded partition bullet.
Their use on deer size animals might be marginal compared to traditional bullets, but I'd certainly want a bonded bullet for an elk, moose or other animal that size or bigger.!! They are definitely better bullets....how much better will be argued for decades!!!!

I've used Speer Grand Slams for years, in .270, .280, and .35 Whelen. I've killed whitetails, mule deer, elk, and caribou with GS's, and have found them to be accurate and effective. They penetrate well, expand well, transfer energy well, but don't blow up and spray bullet fragments through the meat. Only problem I've had is that the 250 gr .35 Cal GS's don't expand all that well on mule deer out of a .35 Whelen. With a .35 caliber hole leaking out both sides, I'm not sure expansion was all that critical, but I quit using the big bullets on deer. They work great on elk and caribou, though.
Basically, you get premium, bonded-core bullet performance at less than half the price of Swift or similar bullets.
