40 gr v-max
Anyone shooting the 40 gr v-max in a 22/250?How do they shoot?
I have been useing 40 gr BT in a rem 22/250,so I decided to try some 40 gr v-max loaded up some with the same load as I was useing with the BT(34.5 gr 10-X) well I shot a few and one would hit the target board ,the next couldn't tell where it hit(100 yds),so I put up a clay bird in the dirt backstop to see what was happeniong, one would hit close to the bird the next would be about 10 ft from the first,Then I tried the 40 bt and shot less than a 1/2 in group, went back to the v-max and hit every where. You could see the bullets hit the dirt so I ruled out them blowing up,another problem the BT averaged 41 30 fps while the v-max I would get one at 3200 and one at 34oo but not one was close to 4000 fps.Took one home and pulled the bullet weighed the powder and was exacly 34.5 grs.
Going to change scopes and see what happens but myself and buddie shot a 3-shot each with the 40 BT and was 1/2 inch.and the 40 v-maxes shot the same for both of us.
Really got me puzzled.

I dont shoot a 22-250 but I do use them in my .220 swift.I use 43 grains H414.That is the most accurate load I have for my swift. Here are my last targets and yes I know they are off to the left. I just shot and then next target made my adjustments

I am having the exact same problem with my 223. I have tried the following powders with 55 gr. hornady spsx 2230 - H335 - BL-C(2) - and H414. The H414 is the best so far, but some of the others have been really wild. Two might be 1/2" and the other off the target. If you figure your problen out, please let me know.[8D]

Guys- Make sure youre guns are not copper fouled- clean them very well.
Varmint cartridges tend to get alot of copper from speed. I've noticed this in my guns.
Here's my dilemma- I shoot the VMax's and Blitzkings very well from my guns, however, the Nosler Bal Tips shoot lousy out of my .223! The Bal Tips seem to load differently when I seat them. I had to make a separatedummy round just to get the BTips to sit well when closing the bolt. Usually, one dummy covers it. I truly believe that the powder choice has everything to do with a particular bullet.
My .223 with H335 and Vmax's is the best load, W748 shoots the BlitzKings the best. Try several different powders until you find the "special recipe"!!
Good luck.

I use 40gr V-Max in my 22-250 with 38.5gr H380. These will put 3 shots in 3/8" at 100yds. I don't even bother loading anything else in it. And from my experience on coyotes and praire dogs, the ballistic charts don't do this load justice. It shoots flatter and does better in wind than they say it should. H380 got it's name because when it was first developedit was Mr. Hodgden's favorite load to use 38.0gr in a 22-250. Varget and TAC also do really well with the 40 V-Max in my gun.

Changed the scope on the remington 22/250 went back to the range yesterday and took along my savage 22/250 model 12 low profile to try the a-maxes in,shot two 3-shot groups at 100 yds and the first 2 bullets in each group were in the same hole and the third was allmost touching.
Tryed the rem again with the a-max one hit the target board and don't know where the other 2 went.Tried the same load (34.5 grs 10x) with the BT 40 gr and shot a group less than 1/2 inch.
I just gave up on the 40 gr a-maxes in the remington figured I would shoot the a-max in the savage and the BT in the remington.
Winman you may have something on the copper,I thought I had it cleaned but will take your advise and give it a good cleaning with JB bore paste and try it again when I get time Thanks for the input.
