Default Primer & Bullet???

What will happen if you forgot the powder charge and only had a primer in a case? Say,if you chambered it and pulled the trigger? Would the primer force the bullet in to the barrel????

yup, the bullet would most likely get stuck in the barrel. Witch would be bad if you didn't realize it and shoot another round. I saw a pistol that it happened to, the barrel was sweld up and had a nice crack in it.

It might cause a bullet to get stuck in the bore, but it might not move them at all either. A lot depends on the weight of the bullet and how much force is needed to break the bullet loose from the grip of the case neck. I have seen a situation in which the reloader forgot to put powder in some of his reloaded cartridges, and all the primer did was to blacken the base of the bullet. The bullet did not move, and we had no clue as to why the rounds misfired until we pulled the bullets and found the cases were empty..... (180-grain in .308 brass.)

I have loaded two rounds without powder, one in 7mm Rem Mag and one in .50 Cal, and tried to fire. Neither moved the bullet at all.

I loaded up like 300 357 sigs in my crap Lee 1000. Well, you got to watch to make sure your hopper is at least 1/3 full. I forgot, and I knew I loaded up one or 2 without much powder or any. Long story sort, it pushed the bullet about 1" up a sig barrel.I was watching for it.I had to drive out with wooden dowl. Now a pistol cartidge like that has less room and more pressure primer alone, rifle, I doubt will do much.

The .50 cal round I actually tried to fire 3 times, not knowingly though. I picked it out of the box to begin with and tried to fire. Nothing. Didn't think anything about it after waiting for a minute to make sure it didn't go off. Took it out of the chamber and stuck it back in the box bullet tip up. Minutes later I grab it again. Nothing. Waited...relized that it was the same one and handed it to the old lady to hold on to. Later that day I finally thought that I had ran out of rounds because I remembered taking the last five out of the box. Went to place the empties back in the box and see one more round and was happy to get to take one more shot. Nothing....same one as the last two....[>:]
