Default bullet ripped paper vs. bullet tumble

hey guys I loaded up some .308 shells with various amounts of varget, with the 45.5 gr. loads on a ct 150 gr. bullet (nosler) with an overall length of 2.785 the max is 2.80. I shot at 100 yards from my gun vise and got a 3" group from center to center of furthest shot. These bullets were fired from a good condition remington model 788. I did not crimp the bullets and loaded 1 at a time. Did I do something wrong why would 1 shot be in center and the 2 to the left have rip marks in the paper like bullets tumbled. thanks guys chris
Also the shot in the middle of target was a small hole==.30 size

Well, have you tried factory ammo in this gun? If so, does it keyhole it? Something seems very wrong here. Get back to us.

With any accuracy question you have to realize that there is more to it. You could have issues with the scope, mounts, rings. but then there could be issues with the gun itself. Then it can also be ammo.

If you have a bullet keyhole its normally pretty obvious depending on what kind of target backer you have.

follow up I went back to the range today and shot 150 gr factory corelokts at 50 yards they shot a 3/4 " group outside to outside 3 shot gruop. Then I loaded some more of the comb. technology bullets this time with 46 gr. of varget this time I shot at 50 yards just like I did with the core lokts The 3 shot group was right under 1/2 " from center to center of furthest shots. They were all touching, and the holes were perfectly round. Do you all think that the problem was my gun did not like the 45.5 gr. load of varget. That is all I can think of that I did different. Bullet depth, primer, bullet all the same.

Could be your rifle didn't like the bullet/powder combo. But to have such a large difference especially with the samebullet and only a 1/2 gr change.I would suspect that the culprit is your gun vise. I prefer sandbags.
