I haven't registered yet, not because I'm fighting the system but just because I'm lazy.
To the majority of non-gun owning Canadians gun registration is a no-brainer. We register boats, dogs, automobiles and children for that matter. Gun registration is an easy vote getter and will not go away. Those who defy the law will just confirm what many people already think - that we are semi-hysterical rednecks. We have a major public image problem and the only way I see to correct it is to obey the law (even if it is a waste of money) and show people that we are responsible citizens who care about public safety as much as the next guy. If we take the lead in this issue we may come out looking like the good guys.
Expending our efforts on entrenching hunting and fishing rights in the constitution is a much more useful activity. So is promoting responsible gun use and encouraging others to take up shooting sports. Fighting gun registration is a losing battle in my opinion.

For all of you that have already registered what do you think the goverments next step will be? After spending 1 billon dollars they will have to start justifing the expense. So what is the long term goal of this legisation? Remember this is politics so what you see is not always what you get.

Boreal, I have to disagree. We can't sit back and say "oh well, the governments wasting more money, its to be expected".
The Liberals know they screwed up and are regreting it, but are pushing ahead because a u-turn would be political (career) suicide. They know full well that they are wasting tax dollars but are continuing to serve themselves and their party, not the Canadian people. I agree that we have to fight on other fronts, but if we could make the average non-gunning Canadian understand what C68 is all about they may realize that our federal representitives are more worried about votes than voters.

Tschaef is right, but the only problem is who else do you vote for. The PC's and Mulroney gave this country a kick in the privates no one will ever forget and the Alliance Party (which should be the best choice) can't figure out how to run their party. As much as everyone had a problem with Manning, I think he was a good man.

Hopefully Stephen Harper can get the Alliance back on track. If we all get behind him and show our support the Liberals can be defeated. The Liberals give us enough ammo to use against them on lots of issue's. It is our job to point out their short comings to our friends and neighbours making this more then a one issue fight. A thousand little cuts will bring them down just as effectively as one major blow.

tmbrwolf; there is no conservative logic in the huge metropolis of Toronto. Right wing parties are not viewed with much trust from people who believe that being molested at gun point is a top issue. The Americans want to arm when they have this fear, eastern Canadians want to disarm everyone.

lazyarcher; I agree with you. There is a totally different cocrpt about guns between the southern city dwellers and almost everyone else in Ontario. Even bigger northern cities like the Soo, Sudbury and Thunder Bay seem to have never lost their respect of firearms. But TO, Ottawa, Hamilton etc. are different. They generally fear guns. It's strange when you look at the stats. You have a much getter chance of getting killed by a spouse in a rural area than a stranger in a city. But the media loves to make the most out of murders.

The worst part: you're something like 10 x more likely getting killed by your spouse than winning the 6-49.
