Had another great moose hunt this year.
The second day of the hunt I was fortunate to harvest this huge 56" bull.
The following day my buddy took a 51" bull and that was it for the tags.
Seen 17 moose during the hunt a 2 others the day before opening.
Hope everyone had a great hunt as well.

Great lookin Bull Machz
We were at 15A During the archery season, and saw really nothing for Moose this year The Guides were having Problems putting their Clients on Moose.
My Brother in law was fortunate enough again this year to happen upon a Young Cow So we do have moose in the Freezer But out of a Week and a Half I saw one Bull and he was crossing the Road

Hi guys, thanks for the complement.
Nice to hear you have something for the freezer Littleal even though your hunt wasn' t that good.
Hopefully next year it will be better for you, I know 15B has alot of moose especially around silver dollar.
Otis, I hunt ear falls area 5.
Rut was kinda wierd this year, my bull had 4 cows with him and didn' t even respond to a bull gunt his way.

Wow! That' s a beautiful bull dude. My buddies dad used to own a lodge way back when around Ear Falls. They hunted bear and moose as well as fishing. It burned down when we were kids. Probably around the mid-70s I guess. He always said there were alot of moose around there.
Sounds like a great hunt.
We didn' t have any luck this year. We were in a new area so it took a few days just figure out what was going on.
We did have plenty of excitement though. On two seperate evenings we had bulls working really well only to have them hang up just out of sight until we lost light.
Frustrating but exciting. It was a big flooded out willow flat and was it ever cool to hear them splashing towards us grunting and thrashing willows. Each time it would take a few steps, grunting like crazy and then stop. We would let out a soft cow call or a bull grunt and rake the willows with a paddle blade and it would start our way again. They were the deepest sounding bull grunts I' ve every heard so it must have been a good bull.
Both times we figured if we snuck out of there that they would be in the area in the morning but each time, no dice. The one night as we paddled silently away the bull could be heard grunting for about 20 minutes. Man, he sounded mad. It was really cool to hear and hard to leave.
Oh well, we know were we' ll be next year.
It' s going to be a long wait!

Hi Cyrus, sounds like you had a good time regardless. Sure does get your blood going when they grunt to you like that.
I was in that same situation about 5-6 years ago in Armstrong. We had a nice bull grunting to us but hanging up out of range. What we did was set-up an ambush the following day and I grunted about 150 yards behind my buddy and the bull went right by him towards me pawing the ground till he shot.
I wonder also if he was ready for a scrap but thought that you were a bigger sounding bull so he might have been trying to intiminate you without having a confrontation. Lighter grunts might have helped but you never know.
Last year was the closest ever in so short a time to a bull using a grunt. Down in the swamp opening day a deer took off after spotting me and a bull was only 30 yards infront of me in the scrub grunting for no reason. I took the safety off and grunted back and WHAM, he was 10 feet infront of me in less than 5 seconds, no crap. Neck shot and he turned , another and he was down but it was a really, really close call.

Hey MachZ,
Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines but when I grunt, I try to sound like a younger bull and try not to sound too deep. I' m sure this was a pretty big bull. I think part of the problem may have been that he was on the other side of some very thick willows along a creek and we were in a canoe backed up against the far bank. He may not have wanted to go through that thick crap and across the creek.
You never know though. It was fun anyway.
We ended up going back up there on the last day of the season, more to look around that area for next year than anything else and found a great spot back in where we figure he came from. It' s a bit of a ridge between two flooded out areas that was completly torn up and thrashed. There were trails running along the ridge and a few rut pits that stunk like you wouldn' t believe. Moose crap every where. When we found it we just stood there going. " Look at that, look at that, holy crap look over there" . It' s one of those spots that when you find, you just know is a honey hole.
It' s nasty to get in to. You have to wade thigh deep through about a hundred yards of flooded timber and loon s**t but once you are in there it is nice solid ground. It' s the best looking spot I' ve ever seen. A natural funnel between two sloughs with a small willowy meadow. Awesome!
Won' t be easy getting one out, but totally doable. There is a beaver channnel running about half way in there that we could float a canoe up.
I can' t wait for next year.

Nice bull Machz,
We just got back from up there also with a bull, didn' t have a big rack but was a large sized animal. Fastest hunt I' ve ever been on, arrived Friday night and we had our bull by Saturday night hanging in camp.
Locals indicated that the primary rut was stopped due to cold/bad weather then it got really hot driving them into the second rut. Finally started cooling down again about the time we arrived but they were still responding to calling. They also indicated that the archery guys really had a hard time this year because of the weather?
Congrats,
340

Hi 340.
Good to hear you got your bull this year after the crappy weather you had last year.
I think your hunting close to the area I hunt (Dryden). The first 2 days of the hunt were +19 & +17 both at 6am..... Cooled off the second night which is good so we could cool down the moose.
Lots of guys heading up for the second week past Thunder Bay on my way home this year, might have even passed you.
Anyways good hunting.
Here is a pic of both bulls and a small bull calf.

Nice Pic, hope your mounting those antlers if not the whole head. Really nice set.
We probably did pass each other, as we left on Friday the 17th, to hunt the second week. Drove a total of 17 hrs via hwy 11 to get to Ignace. We hunted 15A but I heard the first week 12A and 9A were rocking.
Only smiles
coming home this year, man you have a good memory.
Cheers and good luck at Deer Camp
