Difference in a VX-1 and a Rifleman
I am looking at getting a new scope for my .270. I am looking at a Leupold VX-1 or a Rifleman in a 3x9-40. What are the differences in these two scopes besides price? And is the VX-1 worth the extra money? Thanks in advance for the help.

I may be mistaken but I believe the Rifleman is not a one-piece tube. The lens coatings are also likely different. It's meant for Wally World type stores. If I were you, I'd save a little extra cash and get a better scope. There are several reasonably priced ones available such as: Burris Fullfield II, Sightron S2, Weaver Grand Slam, Bushnell 3200 and 4200, etc. They are all better (IMO) than the Rifleman or the VX1.

The Rifleman is not made in the Leupold facility in the US. It is af asian make and I believe made in China. That alone would make my mind up for me, But Leupold info says that the VX-1 is in the same quality class as the older Vari-X II whereas the VXII is where the older Vari-X-3 used to be. If that's trued then the VX-I is not fully multi coated. If I were not buying a VX-II or better, I would buy another scope that was in the same price range as the VX-I but had fully multicoated lenses. Like the Burris Fullfield II, Sightron SII, etc

Well one's a Leupold, and one isn't.
Leupold > All
'nuff said.

Leupold is not even close to > all.

I like the VX-II's and higher, also. But for the VX-I and Rifleman, you can get better scopes for the same price. You are just paying for the Leupold name.

I think its the same for the VX-2s and count for this up also. The VX 3's cost a ton, some are good bit more then even the Zeiss Conquests in the same approx powers and the Zeiss blow the Leupolds away.
Like you said you are just paying for the name.
