The Rifleman is not made in the Leupold facility in the US. It is af asian make and I believe made in China. That alone would make my mind up for me, But Leupold info says that the VX-1 is in the same quality class as the older Vari-X II whereas the VXII is where the older Vari-X-3 used to be. If that's trued then the VX-I is not fully multi coated. If I were not buying a VX-II or better, I would buy another scope that was in the same price range as the VX-I but had fully multicoated lenses. Like the Burris Fullfield II, Sightron SII, etc
