Bedford targets

I attended Bedford this past weekend. I am not someone who bashes the Ibo. I think it is amazing that a shoot can handle so many shooters in such an organized fashion. I am concerned with the fact that the entry fees went up this year. My understanding was that this was to help defray the cost of targets. Some of the targets on the MBO courses were pathetic. They had huge chunks out of them, the scoring rings in some were unidentifiable, and thanks too the huge chunks in some of them, the 11 ring floated when arrow hit the target. We shot on Saturday, and some of the targets were in terrible condition early in the morning. It made me wonder if they were even new targets when the event started. We did see some targets that the inserts were replaceby mid day saturday, but some were just simply awful. I also would like to voice my displeasure with course D. I do not shoot in open class to shoot something that has so many targets so close. The majority of that course would have been legal for a 35 yard class, and there was little variation in yardage from target to target. There was adequate room in most lanes too change it and make it longer. Courses A B and C were pretty well set and offered a good, fair, challenge. There were some very deceptive lanes and real good use of terrain. There were more uphill shots than I ever remember shooting anywhere. Very interesting setup.
All in all it was a great weekend. The weather was beautiful, and there was some great archery. I look forward to the rest of the triple crown.

This was my first time going to Bedford and my group had a great time. The weather was great and the mud was almost nonexistant. I will agree that the prices are getting out of hand. When we went to the shoots in the southern triple crown they had gone up across the board and then again at Bedford. When there are two shooter in a family as my wife and I are, it gets pretty expensive.
The courses though to me were fairly tough and the terrain made for some tough judging. I also shot A B C and D ranges from the red stakes and I thought the targets looked very new to me. I shot all 40 on Friday and was one of the last groups out that evening. I think the club did a great job of making the courses tough to judge and shoot.
I would like to thank all of those that helped me and my friends to be able to shoot all 40 targets in a day. We had a late start due to having to drive over from Seymour, Indiana from the hotel and that put us a little behind. We shot the first 30 with two different groups of shooters and had to join another group of 3 open shooters to finish out our last ten targets. All three groups we shot with were great. They really made me feel at ease and helped me to overcome my nervousness at being in a new place. After just a couple of targets they were asking us about where we were from and if we had any wild hogs to hunt down in Alabama. Thanks for helping to make our Bedford experience a great one!

I think that some of the targets were from last year when McKenzie owned the company. The majority of them were new targets with different foam, at least in my opinion. If I'm right, the new targets are nice. I shot A-D.
I thought the new targets were much better than the older ones. I remember pass throughs on Friday afternoon two bedfords ago.

our group shot thru one target on a range saturday afternoon....a black buck....but i think the folks were already on the way with a new mid section as we were heading out...there was a little tree behind the target that was taking a real whoopin...LOL
all in all the ranges were good. as usual the terrian was a little tough to judge yardage over, but the ranges were laid out well as usual. if memory serves, i think that is the 4th time i have shot bedford without rain gear...very nice. lets hope the weather holds out for the entire year...LOL

We had the opposite problem with one black target. When my arrow hit it sounded like I had shot a brick wall. My arrow got only got a 1/2 inch penetration. Of course I am shooting a longbow with wood arrows but I usually get at least 1 1/2 inches into a new target. Other than that the course was great and had a great time.
