a few get loose as pets. One guy video taped one while turkey hunting a few years back. The news runs special reports of sightings every now and then as well

yup... we' re good friends with the Encon officer for here and he told us that about three years ago they released 2 mated pairs of mountain lions in the catskill mountain area and have been tracking and keeping track of them ever since.. one was spotted last year near a town and they haven' t been seen since but it' s suspected that they' re hiding way up in the mountains

a friend of mine ,hunting last season saw what appeared to be a cougar . it was stretched out standing on its hind legs scratching on a dead tree. after coming out of his deer stand he saw its tracks he called the d.e.c. and reported his story .they initially denied that there are any lions in n.y. then they fessed up and reported leting some free .another hunter using a game cam reportedly has a picture of one that was taken about a mile away both these sightings are with in a mile of a populated village. another person saw a lion a couple years ago crossing a road by a n.y.c. resivior .it stopped after crossing the road and looked back over its shoulder at the car

no way encon released dangerous predators into an ecosystem... sounds like the 100lb pike that attacked a skin diver, or encon dumping rattlesnakes out of a helicopter to controll the turkeys that are eating all the acorns. oh yeah, didnt they release coyotes a few years ago to keep the deer in check? no way Jose, Sub-Urban legends, all of it.
whats next, kodiak bears released to controll the cougar population? hmmm sounds like a plan.....

they wouldnt admit to it publicly because of liability issues, say one hunted down and killed your kid in the woods behind your house
