I am in Catonsville, but do all my hunting in Frederick Co. (Middletown) where I have a farm and mountain property that borders Gambrils State Park. I bow hunt mainly on the Mountain and try and fill my crop damage tags on the farm and also Goose hunt as much as possible.

My name is Jason. My buddy Chris and I are fairly new to the hunting arena. We hunt in Montgomery and Frederick counties. We havent had much luck yet. We are still learning and would be greatful for any tips anyone could provide for beginners. We hunt during bow and shotgun/rifle season in both counties. The best place that we have found so far is Frederick City Watershed. Any general tips would be appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all!

James, Aquasco is in fact where I hunt in Southern PG County. In fact I was there last Saturday. They only allow 9 hunters per day and you must make a reservation. The property is shared by the Washington area Girl Scouts who has the camp grounds on the right just after you turn off of Aquasco Rd. Southern Maryland Beagle Club also shares the property, they have the house in the back.
I did not realize there are coyotes down there.
For some reason the property has not been farmed for the past three yrs. There are a couple of tractors and piles of fertilizer this year.
While I have never taken a buck out of there, I have taken a couple of nice does (must not be hunting in the right place)
Maybe I will see you down there.

Sideways,
The girl scouts have moved to an area that you will see on the left on Aquasco farm road ,right across the enetrence to the Farm.
The beagle club ,Yep been there a few times to watch the trails,But they are the only every couple months.
As far as the 9 hunter rule,Dont know who is telling you that ,or who is telling you ,that you need a researvation, that went out years ago,The only thing required is a Public hunting permit from the DNR,I will say there is always a bit of confusion about this location ,due to the fact that it is owned by the Md.Park and planning service and the DNR controlls the hunting,And they both do not know what the other is doing.
If you were there on saturday...You missed seeing the guys come out in the AM with those bigs bucks.
Not sure were you are hunting back there,But that is one of the areas with the highest concentration of deer in the state.
Hint....Hunt the River/swamp area knolls in the rear. Also the property line/power line/swamp area in the back left.
I drive through there since the yote reporting at dusk...and is very easy to count over 200 deer on any giving night.
Have counted 7 yotes so far,Will be trying to live trap them after hunting season, unless I can get a good shot with the traquilizer.
By chance if you see one and get a shot at one take it out,and PLEASE call me.
The farmer that originally farmed it died,And there for it was alowed to grow up,They are going to clear all the feilds, and remove the barns,Also there is a thing were they may,Start a controlled burn,to burn off some off the fields,As you noticed ,the tractors didnt get alot done, due to the overgrowth.
Good luck.

I hunt in Baltimore County, and in Hampshire County W.Va.
anyway just checking in, how is the rut doing? bucks running the does hard yet...haven' t been in the woods much. i spent one day bowhunting in W.Va. last weekend had a bad shot on a small doe. i watched the broadhead clear her back, and the fletchings smack her as the arrow flexed. but i haven' t seen any bucks moving much yet, what have you guys seen?
