I don't see how anyone thinks the choice option was created to sale more tags? If you followed the sales in the past,it is obvious that most WMU's always sold out fairly fast.

All this system does is give the hunter a chance to get his second choice if the first one is already sold out without the County Treasurer having to sending the application back to the hunter who then finds out his second choice also sold out before he could resubmit his application to his second choice unit.

This is entirely a benefit to the hunters and doesn’t make one additional penny for the Game Commission, result in even one additional license being sold or any more deer being killed, yet you still want to bitch about it.

I am not bitching I am just stating what I see it as being, Now The Game Commission can cash more of those checks sooner without returning checks submitted for the originally preferred WMU. This makes it easier for you to sell those tags to ensure the deer slaughter continues. I base my selection and decision to purchase a doe tag by what see personally, not every wmu is the same and not every part of one individual wmu is any more the same. Some areas do not need any further herd reduction and I do not buy tags or kill doe because the Game Commission tells me I need to so they can meet their agenda. I spit on your current agenda when it comes to herd reduction under the current blanket program which has ruined many a good hunting areas while making some others better. I manage the land I deer hunt on and I determine how many doe need to be taken from that property, not you. So once again my WMU selection is based off of what I determine is necessary or unnecessary on a particular area of a particular wmu. I don't buy doe tags just because I can. And I don't kill doe where few deer are to be found. But Keep up the good work with the bear and turkey program that way you can always point out a positive when anyone brings up the current state of our deer program.

I didn't get the point about the PGC making more money, either?

Since the checks are made out to "county treasurer", it would appear that they get the money first, keep their dollar, then have to remit the balance to the PGC within a certain time frame?

The new system should benefit hunters, since checks don't have to be returned so that someone can submit another application to a WMU that still has tags left.

Be interesting to see if all goes as planned, since there have already been some glitches in the license issuing system.

Maybe one guy in Tremont will get all the 2G tags and they'll all arrive on the same day. Pity his poor mail carrier.

"huh and i thought the three choices was a good idea. I tend to hunt 3c but go to 3b on a occasion or two . I like it "

I dont think it was a bad idea. I just dont care for the reason Im sure they did it. It will sell more tags when/where allocations are highest and or raised in the future. One example would be 2B. Rosenberry basically said they would have raised the allocation just as they did in 2c, but they couldnt sell them out any higher. Well that was previously... Now...who knows?

Other wmus some years dont sell out till late in the season. At times 2A for example. And most years its possible to get 3. IF they were raised, they very likely wouldnt sell out either. Not that they need raised, since the goal is supposed to be stabilization and the herd is still declining with one of the highest allocations in the state.

Having said all that...just throwing out some thoughts....I actually support the change. Its not really overall significant imho, but a small convenience I guess. The big problem is the same one that has been for years now and it isnt giving second and third options on doe tag applications. lol

Some folks can see a conspiracy anywhere they want. IMHO, the new procedure looks like common sense way to fix an old bureacratic inconvenience. Antlerless tags virtually all sell out anyway so the idea that this will sell more licenses holds no water.

Pgc knows how many tags they can sell judging by if they sell out previously at that level or when they sell out. A wmu that doesnt sell out till December with 60K tags isnt likely to sell out next year with 80K period, so there is little reason to raise them.

Thats the situation in some wmus. Creating a perceived greater demand as well as giving more time to buy might be enough to get more sold.

No conspiracy. Only way this system would be detrimental is when they actually do raise the tags in wmus where this would come into play... Those not quickly selling out now...then it will be proven the reason why this was done. Till then, I see no problem and as I stated support the move.

My question to you is this,,,,if it is about management of the deer populations,,,why the he!! dont you guys just sell tags over the counter? Why the he!! does a guy/gal have to go thru all this BS to get a doe liscense??? I think the problenm would be like this. Lets say like one county has huge population of hunters and they went in and all bought tags for the same WMUs. Everyone would be hunting I am sure in or very close to that county and the deer herd numbers would decline in that county as the other counties in that WMU deer population would increase. This way you get a better balance of license sold to spread out if everyone sends them in at the same time from different counties in the WMUs. Just a guess on the reason why.
