This tells me nothing about the quality of hunters addded to the ranks in PA this year.

Denny must have thought he was doing something good by postingwhat he did in his usual pgcsupporting way. Guess he shouldve looked before he leapt.
Thanks for helping point out that pgcs failure continues DennyF. One more year of license decline as the effect of a miserably failed program.

Maybe not, but it certainly tells us about the quality of at least some that are leaving

Well I agree, but it also tells me that we should be working towards a better medium that suits trophy hunters and those who want to see a few more deer, or take a lesser buck if they want to.

My support of AR's is less about trophy hunting than it is about a belief in the QDM concept of a healthier, older age class, more naturalherd.
I am against returning to a policy that kills off 85% of our bucks when they first sprout a bone on their head. I do think aspread restriction is better for allowing bucks to age but no system is perfect.

BS posts like the one from this idiot....
That'll be just fine with the real hunters of this state R2D2

Dont let the door hit ya where the good lordsplit ya!!!

We certainly don't need your kind around the future hunters of this state!
What is the basis for your theory?
How are you going to get a kid involved in hunting once he goes out once for deer? no deer to see and next hunting season he will want to play his video games instead. Pa hunting is over and a waiste of money to buy a license.I am not giving away money to an organization that doesn't do anything for me. I would rather give my 30+$ to a childrens christmas fund than to waiste it and give it to the PgC for bird watchers and antis to benifet off of my money.F!@# them and the pgc this year.

2G is spotty. Some areas are large voids and other areas harbor a decent number of deer (by today's standards). The problem we found this year is that other hunters found the same areas that we did. Word gets around.
Note that we've been hunting the second week of the season for quite some time and the PGCchanged the antlerless season to the second week in 2G this year. We always had less opportunity in the second week, but enjoyed hunting without the crowds of people that only hunt the first day or two of the season.

The 1% uptick is not really anything to celebrate. What is noteworthy is that we went from negatives to a positive in a time when the numbers have steadily dropped across the entire US.
the significance of stopping and reversing a trend is indeed large. Anyone who has a tough time accepting that idea needs to watch the replays of Harrisons interception and touchdown run repeatedly till it sinks in. Thats what just happened with license sales.
Rodger pointed out a plausible theory, so did Greg.
Here's my best case theory: Maybewe flushed out theone day punkin army crowd over the past 5 years and we've begun to spark some interestand recapture some of those that had grown tired of the spike and forkie parade every seasonby improving the quality of our bucks.
No matter what we all believe, the one point that screams for our attention is the continued drop among junior hunters. Whatever our differences ALL of us need to try to do our part to get another kid or two involved.

I see you no longer want to discuss the decrease in license sales. I wonder why.
The older age structure has produced lower breeding rates , lower productivity and no improvement in the breeding ecology . What you posted is simply QDMA propaganda to justify having a higher percentage of older buck with larger racks. The large buck being harvested today are the result of the genetics that developed from harvesting 80% of our 1.5 buck for at least the last 50 years.

One more thing. In my opinion the in-line muzzleloader season is a thinly guised method to reduce the deer population. Why don't they just open it to centerfire rifles and be done with it. In-lines are modern weapons with modern magnified sights. Maybe they should have one long season from October through January and a free-for-all when it comes to choice of arms, including class III weapons.
