Now that I look at it, is it possible that the deer is still alive in the photo?
Their ears usually droop when they die I would think.
Maybe the front legs are just hidden in the grass.
Could be a muley fawn that they chased down and were toying with.
I do see a button though...where's Old Blue??

Thanks livbucks, I've been messing with this photo since I got up this morning. I think it to is a young muley. I filtered out the photo a little. This is what I got

Not sure, but I believe the shirt and tie tradition has its roots in pre colonial Europe where hunting was a privilege reserved for the wealthy...a gentleman's sport if you will. Could also have to do with respect for the game, reverence for the hunt. I imagine the band was for deer camp entertainment purposes. (No satellite tv in that camp!) The mature conifer forest setting could be the western states, and the deer is looking more and more like a mule deer each time I look.
