disapointing day in western MA
#11
I am afraid I'm in the same boat as you I didn't find my buck either! I spent the entire day looking but with all the rain we had I had nothing to go by. I really thought I made a good hit and when i went back the next day I found my arrow it was a complete pass through. The arrow had some blood and hair on the fletching but most of it was pretty well washed off. I am upset to say the least but I won't let it stop me we just got to get back up on that horse and ride. I saw a spike this morning but the small game hunters and their beagles were out in force. I go somewhere else tomorow. Good luck and don't forget bend at the waist.

mike where you from?btw i am in west springfield, but yeah i searched all the land i could get to in the area but because it was such a small piece of woods i thought it was going to be fairly easy i belive the area to be only like 200 acres it is really long and skinny and it borders a river my worse gut feeling is she jumped in to swim across and drowned because she lost alot of blood. but i will keep with it this is my first year ever hunting i started in CT because they hunt 1 month before mass but that hunting was tough because of the heat and the woods still being fully green and thick and oh the worse part was the damn mosquitos they were terrible.
also any advice about how to hunt in northern CT would be apreciated to a newbie because i seen a holy roman ton of deer sign in CT but never any deer.
thanks to all who have applied the hunters here are really a tight nit family who support each other and i am proud to be here with all of you.

You guys sound like me... Opening am i shot a doe w/ what I thought was a great shot. Turns out I clipped liver and gut. I let her go for a long time... found 12 beds w/ blood. Lost her in a swamp. We looked everywhere. Very disappointed.
Had a nice doe come in this am on the same stand w/ 2 skips... She came in to 10 yards at about 6:50am.... i could see her, but couldn't see my sight through the peep and did't take the shot...
She stopped in the "perfect" spot that I have in the area too... Of course... when it is still too dark to shoot!
Never heard them come in... They just turned and walked back the way they came. As soon as they disappeared... I could see my pin!
Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
Keep at it guys... We are hunting Massachusetts.... Too bad we are not on a nice Midwest farm.... Oh well.

yes sir it is but nothing in life comes ease unless you have 1500+ to spend on a dream hunt where everything is done for you but me i like the challenge makes all that much more rewarding when you actually complete your mission.

ok guys today was not a disapointing day for me, i finally got my first deer this evening, a small doe, but hey its my first and I am very proud of it. it was a perfect shot oppertunity, quartering away @10 yards, it was awsome i waited 20+ minutes for the perfect shot and the wait paided of.
A double lung shot that dropped the skipper at 40 yards watched it drop from the tree stand so there was absolutely no tracking involved with this one it was really nice.

just to show you the shot i had if you look in the top photo you can see the entrace hole in this photo you can easily see the exit hole. i was using a muzzy 3 blade 100 grain and boy did it do the trick it was a complete pass and the arrow was in the ground at leaset 4 inches behind it.
also there is a post on here somewhere about making homemade lumenock's for like 4 dollars each i made one earlier in the day and actually got to shoot this deer with an arrow equipped with it, it worked extremely well i saw the arrow very easily throughout the entire flight and then stuck in the ground untill i got there. i highly recamend them for low light hunting it makes the job alot easier to see your shot placement, after the shot.
