I'd like to know, what animal you think that photograph shows?

If you look at the habitat, where does it look like it was taken? The Flordia Everglades? Rocky Mountains? Does it look like desert terrain?

To me, it looks like typical North Easten United States terrain? Doesn't that look like your own backyard? All that thick vegatation.
I really don't know what the animal is in the picture. With a little imagination I can see a ML, bobcat, housecat, dog, deer, fox, coyote. The picture is really poor. Nothing in the picture to give a perspective of size. The shape of the head looks to me like the type of dog Patton had (Willie) pending on how I interpret theshadows. Like I said though, about the only thingI can say for sure is that ithas 4 legs and is tanish/rusty colored. With regard to the terrain, although typical of eastern US I think itcould easily be Washington state or Oregon too. I've been to WAfor businessa couple of times and I thought it looked suprisingly like it does around here.

I like your experiment. I'll giveit a try as the opportunity comes up.

if you took this blurry photo to 10 animal experts, didn't tell them where it was taken, and ask them what it showed, most would say, mountain lion.
I'm not so sure about that.

If I were huntingML and this animal stepped out, I'd shoot and so would you.
If my vision were that blurry I wouldn't be hunting. At least notuntil I sobered up.

You make it VERY clear that a "kid" is stupid, unless he is a kid in Penn State U.
Come on now. I didn't call anyone stupid. I basically said that its foolish to think a "bunch of kids" would be more knoledgeable than the educatedpeople at a university. In fact here is precisely what I said...

And of course the educated people at one of Pennsylvania's premeir universities can't possibly know more than a bunch of kids!
Cleary facetious. If your going to quote me, at least be honest about it.

Why don't you try a little experiment

Bad idea. He would have to apply for study grant money through various highbrow foundations and the Federal government too. Do you know how long it will be before the results are in? We are talking decades.
Let's try a different route...Sylvan, we believe you when you say you believe yourself that you believe you don't believe that the people who believe they saw a mountain lion actually saw one but that you do actually believe that they believe it, but you believe them to be in error about what they believe to have seen.
So, that you see that we respect your stand and that is clear...do you have any new info to present? If not, we have heard your opinion.

By the way..I have no animosity toward college grads...just college grads that hold superior opinions about their associates' infallability. "PSU says blah blah and you better not doubt it" Like the world doesn't change day to day.

Going back to edit posts so they show yourself in a more favorable light is unsportsmanlike, Sylvan. Let your words stand as they are.

One should see thepicture of 2 large bobcats seen in the December 2005 issue of the New York Conservationist magazine page 29. They are also the orangish color and look very large in the photo. These have no tail andpointed ears much like the posted photo. They look well fed and have thick winter coats. I imagine the fur would be a lot thinner in the warmer months, and they might look more like the posted photo.

I'll add that up here in Plattsburgh, NY there have been numerous reports of mountain lions, but none confirmed. Also a VT/Canadian border video camera picked up photos of what sure looks like a mountain lion, but no-one can absolutely say for certain. Enclosed are linksthat summarize thenews story.

Just some things for your consideration.

BUSTED!

Sylvan, Do yourself a favor go back and read your responses to what people are saying to you. You keep changing gears and your insults don't stop even when you see your doing it. This is why you are the one being laughed at right now. You thinka Penn State Engineering degree makes you better than everyone on this board? Smarter? As a matter of fact most engineers I know from a local GIANT Corporation are book smart but have very littlecommon sense. This is how your looking to us. Your showing no real honesty in your posts. Your very abrasive and downright rude.

A deer? A coyote? A fox? Come on, Sylvan! You got to be kidding us? The animal is definitely a type of cat. I just showed the picture to my daughter and wife. They don't even know anything about this thread. They said it looks like some kind of big cat or lion.

Your in denial.

Actually fightforyourguns, I have gone back and maybe you should too. On at least 3 occassions I appologized or was contrite regarding the insults. You guys on the other hand have grown extremely caustic with personal attacks and that's o.k. with you guys.

So you call me dishonest, have no common sense, are abrasive and rude and I think I'm smarter than everybody else and all in the very post you accuse me of insulting people. How about you re-read your own posts and some of the other "polite" people here who have called me, arrogant, narrow minded, ridicule my fellow graduates, and even something as trivial as make fun of my spelling errors. livbucks vitriolic rants drip with insults and resentment. No, you guys are just as polite as can be! Sounds like the chatter at a church social don't you think?
