Alright fellas, starts this Saturday, seems early, doesn't it?
I'm hunting a small farm, or a WMA, depending on the wind, and in both places I'm hunting way back in a bedding area, hoping the knuckleheads push somethingg towards me. Lots of acorns back there too.
How about you guys?
I'm shooting a Traditions Lightning, .50 with power belt copper 245g plated, backed by 100gr pyrodex. Anyone else? I'm bringing my old Hawken too, because the one spot I can't see past 35yds anyway, and it's more fun to sit in the tree with the Hawken flintlock. Seems like you're Davy Crocket. Wasn't too long ago I never would have imagined hunting without it.
Hope everybody has a good time, and lets hope a few big boys survive to chase with the bow next month.
I still have my Quality buck tag, and I figure either of my spots could stand having one less doe, if she comes by late morning, and I'm getting stiff and ready for lunch.

Nobody else?
I think if it's raining hard I'll be taking the bow too, nothing like a misfire to ruin your day, LOL.

I took the bow for a walk in the morning and saw 7. Only one small spike all the rest does and fawns. Went to a secluded white oak patch in the afternoon...had three small bucks come in and check scrapes in the area. Also had a bunch of does come in. Shot a big doe a 6:30pm. Fun night! They're really eating up the acorns right now!!!

DEBob,
Congrats on the Doe. I promised my buddy we'd goose hunt saturday and since the morning was a wash out, we went in the afternoon. No geese, it was the perfect day to be Deer hunting though,, . Gotta learn to watch what I promise people. Would rather have been deer hunting.
