I shot Central Texas whitetails with the 165 Sierra HPBT bullets. It was very deadly, giving fast one-shot knockdowns on them. BUT, I never did shoot a large mulie with one, so cannot comment there. I did shoot a 300+ pound mule deer buck once in northern New Mexico with a 140 Sierra 6.5mm PSPBT, and it did a real good job, but at over 200 yards (6.5X55mm Norwegian Krag, 24" bbl, MV 2650 FPS).

Keep yore powder dry!!

hmm if it blows up on impact that wont be too good...and my dad doesnt let me put more than one round in so second shots arent happening(thinks it will teach me to make it count but i lost 2 deer because the scope broke and i didnt know and i wounded 2 deer one i could have shot again and left more blood to track and the other i missed totally because of hte scope and it stood there and as i reloaded it walked off slowly! i could easyily threw another round at it...but i guess with a broken scope that wouldnt be smart...so in a way im glad i didnt wound and lose another deer) i hope they work for me....

What a book says will be accurate will not likely be the same for your rifle, especially a Mauser. How I find an accurate load is to start at the minumum load and load 5 rounds at that level, then load 5 more rounds at .5 gr increments until I have the maximum load. Shoot each load at a different target, if you do your part you will see a pattern develop- the groups might get bigger or smaller with changes in powder charge.

Now I mentioned Mausers in particular in the first paragraph and 5 shot groups. The reason why is that 3 shot groups won't tell you much, but 5 shot groups will tell you much more. The mausers I reload for can produce tight 3 shot groups and throw 2 flyers in another tight group for some loads, which you will miss if you use only 3 shot groups. Other loads can scatter the shots or group all 5 shots tightly. You need to find the sweet spot so that all 5 shots are grouped together.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms... who's bringing the chips?

so far my gun liked all the factory loads i shoot through it...even old crappy ammo that i pulled the last few i had and the powder charges varied greatly...if they dont shoot well i will go back to shooting something else...when i reload myslef at my own house doing it myself i will work loads for each rifle i shoot...reloading was really a lot more work than i thought...and i didnt tumlbe or polish! and the powder dumper was automatic and poured it onto the scale and i still found it pretty hard compared to what i thought..but i want to get into some competiton shooting like long range shooting or something but im sure i wont....thanx for the info..
