I would like to know also why everyone slams Mossberg?? I have owned my 500 for about 14 years now, and have never had a single problem with it.Its only blemish is that the forend seems to have loosened up slightly causing a SMALL rattle.I have not used the 835 so I cant really comment on that one other than I like the looks of it.
Why do the U.S. military and many police depts. use the Mossberg then if its so unreliable??.......HHMMMMM.....maybe its not so bad after all.....

I've traded many guubs in my day (and wil probably trade some more) but I wont part with my Mossberg 500. I haven't tried the 835 but it looks good in the stores. If I was buying a shotgun today abd didn't have my 500 I'd probably go with the 835 as it's a do all (what shotguns were ment to be). either one is a good choice though.
