Mossberg 12ga 500 or 835?

I have a choice between a Mossberg 500 and a 835. I want a Mossberg that is really short and really light gun. Which Mossberg should I get for DEER, TURKEY, dove and duck(mainly deer and turkey)? Thanks,

Bubba

forget the mossberg, and get a Browning,Remington,or a revolation from western auot.
the mossberg is not a reliable gun in my eyes.
thats just my 2 cents, there are 98 more.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

Although I mainly use Remingtons now I have used Mossbergs in the past and found them very reliable. I have used both the 500 and 835 and found both to be adequate. Its all in what you can afford and for the money Mossberg is a good buy. This is my opinion and I'm sure there are others that will disagree.

I wouldn't go with a Mossberg. It's your money so do what you see fit.Remington 870 ,Ithaca 37 are allot better pump guns.Ruger Redhawk

I would definaltely go with the 835 over the 500. I like my 835. I use it for everything, even though i don't use shotguns for deer. I like using them 3.5" shells.

The 835 is a good turkey gun. However, you will have to get a separate rifled barrel for deer slugs. You cannot shoot slugs through the 835 smoothbore barrel. It is overbored.

The remington 870 express is a much superior gun at a comparable price.

either Mossberg is a good gun, like one of the posts before this. Do you need the 3.5 in. shells? If so the go with the 835.

I always see these posts with negative references to Mossberg. But very few have any reasoning behind them. They say that Remington, Browning, etc. are superior or that Mossbergs are not reliable. But no facts are given. What gives? I have bought a synthetic stocked 835 for a low price and got about what I expected: No frills, but a very functional and versatile shotgun.

I would like to know why some people really don't like Mossberg?

Oh, 1950KID has a very valid point. If you are going to shoot slugs from an 835, you will need to purchase a separate barrel which will increase you total cost.
