RE: iron sights
Most good gunsmiths can put iron sights on most any rifle. Why would you want to?? From your other posts, you're looking at a 7mm Remington Magnum. That's not a short range brush gun. Put a quality 3-9x40mm scope on it and go hunting. You'll be very glad you did.

You sure can. Lyman used to make some really good receiver sights, and they might still do.
If you are thinking about having irons put on so you can get one of those nifty seethrough scope mounts, forget about it- just get a scope, the mounts aren't worth the metal they are stamped from, and they mount the scope too high.

I've got to dissagree with Briman on this one.....the see-through mounts have saved the day on a few hunts.I use 30-06 pump and have it set up with irons at 100yd and scope at 300yd.For running or bush shooting, irons are the ticket, in those situations a scope isn't worth a nickel. For long shots when a scope is needed and the deer are calm, a "high" mounted scope fills the bill nicely. Then again,I've taken several deer at 350+yd with iron sights, so maybe scopes aren't really needed at all!

Yes you can put iron sights on just about any barrel. Williams and Marble both make sights you can install. If you really want to put them on there get a gunsmith to measure for the correct height. I would also suggest puting on the "drill and tap" sights as opposed to "solder on" sights in case you want to remove them you can and put plug screws in the holes. They are cheaper to buy and install also.
Personally I wouldn't bother with them. It won't be cheap either way. Figure about $50.00 to mount the front sight and another $50.00 to mount the rear sight. This would include drilling and tapping the barrel. Now figure the cost of the sights themselves and you are looking at about $150.00+- to have iron sights installed. Not worth it IMO.
Put that money into a good scope and you will never need iron sights. A good 3-9X40 will serve you very well with a 7mm magnum. It has a low enough power for close up shots and enough magnifaction in the high range for those long shots as well. I have taken deer and elk as close as 15 yards with a 3-9X and have never felt like I needed iron sights.
