Does anyone know how the Encore action stacks up against the Ruger No. One. I have had the No. One in several calibers including 416 Rem Mag. I just picked up a New Encore in 45-70 and am looking forward to getting at Least One good Handgun Hunting Barrel and a mid range rifle barrel between 243 and 7MM. What barrels do some of you have and how do you like them? Over time I would like to add several more calibers. One may be a 24-26 inch 7x57 mauser. I would like to try the 6MM-06 as well. Anyone tried that one?

The T/C Encore has quite a selection of barrels available that can be ordered. Pretty well any caliber you want. That is one feature I like about the Encore. I was always interested in the Ruger #1 and had never see one up close until I went to Cabela’s and saw one a few weeks ago. The Ruger #1 Is a very nice rifle. Personally I would have rather had the Ruger then the Encore. I would have had to pay another $300.00 for the Ruger but it would have been well worth it.
My Encore originally came with the 7mm Rem. Mag but I ordered a 350 Rem. mag barrel for it. I wanted a big caliber good for the bush. I haven't got it yet but it’s coming. If you’re interested in ordering any barrels check out this link. www.virginvalleyguns.com

James,
They both can shoot outstanding. While in the long run if buying more calibers the encore will be cheaper. Having shot both and having good results with both the No1 has alot better feel and more comfortable to shoot. They both will shoot groups in almost any caliber under a 1" at 100yds. The ruger is the heavier rifle which makes it nicer to shoot in the magnum class. I personally can shoot the ruger No1 alot more consistant. And the No1 has a much better off hand shooting balance. But this is strictly how the two guns fit me personally. For me its the ruger no1.
I'll tell you another fine shooting single shot is the browning 1885 highwall. Its not as tough of an action at the ruger and the stock and forearm are thinner and not as tough. But it is a real shooter with a 28" barrel you have to watch loading it to hot. I've seen signs of pressure with hot loads in that rifle. It's a fine shooting rifle and good off hand shooting.
I would like to shoot and NEF handi rifle just for the fun of it. But if they shoot like the shotguns they are gonna stomp your butt in a large caliber.
You may really like a single shot rifle after awhile. And in need they can be loaded just as fast as a bolt with practice. I'm going to have my next bench rifle made from a Ruger No1.

I have a Ruger #1 A light sporter in 7x57 mauser and I love it. With factory loads it has about half the recoil of a 30-06 and only goes about 200 fps slower. If speed is what you want hornady makes light magnum loads with a 139gr SST a little over 2900 fps. My Barnes 140gr XLCs are traveling at 2900 fps and I can shoot a .9 inch group at 100 yards. I was going to get a stainless Encore also but I was unable to get the pistol frame I wanted so I got a Ruger 77 all weather in 300 WSM.
The #1 action is one of the strongest actions on the market, I once read some where it was strong enogh to chamber a 50 BMG.
The Encore is a very good gun also.

The encore definitely has its advantages, but the No.1 would be my choice. It's a much nicer rifle, IMHO, and balances/feels a hundred times better than the Encore or Handi-rifles...the advantage of being able to get various bbls for the same receiver is something to consider, but I'm one that figures, if you're going to do something, do it all out, if I'm buying a bbl, might as well buy the whole rifle, especially when you're comparing buying a stripped encore bbl vs. a No.1!!!
Either will shoot quite well, the encore will beat you a lot more in the heavy calibers, but since the .45-70 is pretty well as stout as the encore gets, your shoulder is pretty safe.

I'm sure you know my answer? LOL.The Encore is a nice gun and I like the availability of different barrels. The Ruger#1 is a fine shooting rifle and has an extremely strong action.I've never shot a Encore. I know my #1 will drive tacks with the right loads.I would like to get a Encore someday but I still have a few Ruger's in mind first.

Like R-R, I guess you already know my answer.lol I'm certainly not taking anything away from the #1, its a great rifle, but the versatility of the Encore is what steered me that direction. I'd rather spend $250 on a barrrel than spend 3 times that on a new rifle. But to each his own. As for barrels, I have both rifle and pistol barrels in 22-250 and 308, the 12ga Turkey barrel and the 209X45 ML barrel and also have the 450 Marlin(with muzzle-tamer) in a pistol barrel for my Encore frame. I've shot just about all of the calibers offered for it and they've all shot well. If I didn't have the 308's, I'd probably go with the 7mm-08. My dad has one for his Encore rifle and it'll shoot .75 with the right loads. In the end, it'll be you making the decision, so do your homework and go from there.

I really like single shot rifles. I have a good supply of NEF Handi Rifles. My 280 with the 26 inch barrel shoots really well. It was under 200 dollars and in truth is probably the only rifle I would really need. However there are many that I want. It looks like if you shop around you can get about any caliber up to 375 H&H in the Encore. Fox Ridge Has so many it makes me dizzy. I like the Ruger No. One and have also had three number Three Rugers. 22 Hornet #0-30 and 45-70. That No. 3 Ruger in 45-70 would really get your attention with full power Ruger 45-70 Loads.
