I have a Ruger #1 A light sporter in 7x57 mauser and I love it. With factory loads it has about half the recoil of a 30-06 and only goes about 200 fps slower. If speed is what you want hornady makes light magnum loads with a 139gr SST a little over 2900 fps. My Barnes 140gr XLCs are traveling at 2900 fps and I can shoot a .9 inch group at 100 yards. I was going to get a stainless Encore also but I was unable to get the pistol frame I wanted so I got a Ruger 77 all weather in 300 WSM.

The #1 action is one of the strongest actions on the market, I once read some where it was strong enogh to chamber a 50 BMG.

The Encore is a very good gun also.
