Default thompson encore vs ruger no1

i;m looking to buy a single shot this year for deer, possibly elk down the road. pobably 300 win mag or 7mm rem mag. now throw the multible barrel factor out, witch gun is best out to 400 yrds.
p.s. i'm not contemplating 400 yrd shots but its nice to know you can reach out if you had to

I haven't shot an Encore but we have several Ruger #1's and they all shoot great. We have them in .300 Win Mag, 25-06, 30-06, .375 H&H, & 7mm mag.

In a Magnum chambering I would go with the Ruger..its additional weight will tame the recoil. You can with a little tweaking and in some cases no tweaking have a very good shooting LR rifle.

None available that would work with the Ruger..but I am betting that if you could tighten the screws consistently that the Regular Ruger rings would work in a pinch.

I have both and would have to say that the Ruger #1 is definitely heavier. It might be better suited for cartridges with more recoil but on the other hand I have my Encore with a 350 Rem. Mag barrel and a 7mm Rem. Mag and have no problem shooting them. They both have there advantage and disadvantage. The Encore is nice and short even with a 26” barrel. The Ruger feels more like the old traditional rifle but the Encore has more of a different design that I like. As for shooting capabilities that all depends on the one pulling the trigger. Good luck in your choice.

Yeah he did, I love the #1's.Everyone I ever shot would drive tacks. See which one feels the best to you and go from there.Either one you choose would be a great choice. I do like that with the T/C's you can buy extra barrels.

I boils down to what you're looking for and if you plan on buying extra barrels.

lol, I like both the T/C encore and the ruger #1. The lam. stainless ruger number 1 in 204 ruger or a #1 in 375 H & H makes me teary eyed. The T/C encore can be a rifle , shotgun. and a black powder gun, thats cool. Either way both good, if you are like me you will likely end up with both.
