A red dot scope?
I have just bought a new ruger 10/22 and was thinking about putting a scope on it but i dont plan on taking very long shots with it so i was thinking of a red dot. I have only used one on a friends pistol for plate shooting and dont know how close to accurate they are or easy to use. Does anyone use one on a .22 and if so how do you feel about them and what brand is the best?

Love the tasco pro point 3 on my Ruger Deerfield .44. Target aqusition is so fast and you can easily keep both eyes open with the zero magnification. The Ruger deerfield is my walking and stalking gun.

I have a tasco on a 22 pistol that works fine. I also have a bsa red dot on a 357 taurus for deer hunting. It was a grand total of 30.00 bucks at wal mart. I've shot over 500 rds through it and it still works. You would think it would hold up on a 22. Bushnell makes a nice one that has 4 types of reticles you dial in.for about 80 dollars.

I built a 10/22 with Fajen unfinished stock and a Carlson fluted stainless .920 barrel. Stained it olive green and mounted a bushnell holosight. It is one hell of a plinker. I bought 9 mags for it over this year and plan to start on the internals and end it a super race gun.

Watch out for the Bushnell 4 in 1. I put one on my muzzleloader in December and sent it back because the dot looked more like a diamond, the crosshair had two horizontal lines, and the 65 MOA circle also had double lines.
I thought it was just a bad scope until I saw one at a local store on display and it did the same thing. I let customer service know this and they let me "upgrade" to a holosight for $135.00 more. I will get it in Feb. and hope it works better than the 4 in 1.
Customer service was awesome (Jamie Burton), however, I have to wait awhile for the scope to come because they are out of stock.
If you go with the Bushnell try to look through one before you buy.
I was also considering the Leupold/Gilmore red dot. It has 1/3 moa adjustment instead of 1/2 on the Bushnell and has a wider field of view. The Bushnell is 79.99 and the Leupold is $139.00. The Leupold also has a 2moa dot, which is a little more accurate at longer distances.
