ORIGINAL: Vapodog My centerfire rifles are sighted dead on at 40 yards.
This is OK if you don' t shoot much beyond 100 yards. However, I have found that it is ESSENTIAL to confirm short-range zeroes like this by verification shooting at a distance of 200 yards or more to make sure it is shooting where you want, particularly as regards to windage. Windage is often off quite a bit if the initial zeroing was done at less than 100 yards to begin with!!

I sight long range rifles (.270, 30-06, 300 WM, etc) in 1" high at 200 yards. That puts me at 3" high at 100, and only 4-6" low (depending on caliber, bullet weight, BC,) at 300 yards. At 400 yards, I could hold just above the back and drop it in the lower part of the kill zone. If the wind cooperates!
DITTO!!
