what is your rifle sighted in for

I sight most of my deer rifles in at 200 yards, except the 30-30 and have it at 100 yards. How about you guys.

I sight all my rifles in to shoot an inch high at 25 yards, and that puts me about 1.5 high at 100 and dead on at 200.

If they are 30-30 or the sort they are sighted in for 100 yds.

I sight long range rifles (.270, 30-06, 300 WM, etc) in 1" high at 200 yards. That puts me at 3" high at 100, and only 4-6" low (depending on caliber, bullet weight, BC,) at 300 yards. At 400 yards, I could hold just above the back and drop it in the lower part of the kill zone. If the wind cooperates! [:-]

I sight in both my 7mmstw' s and 300 ultra mags to be 2-3/4" high at 100 yards. At 200 yards both will be approx 3-1/2" high.At 300 yards they will be 1/2" to 3/4" high.At 400 yards the stw' s will be 6" low and the ultramags 7" low.At 500 yards the stw' s will be 18" low and the ultramags 20" low.

I sight my .30-06 for dead-on at 30 yards. There seems to be very little difference in grouping from 30-100 yards. All of my shots at deer have been about 30 yards or less, so this suits me just fine.

300 Win Mag
200 gr nosler partition
3 1/2" high at 100
0 at 300
-10 at 400
-27 at 500
Actual measurements on targets.
I hunt in fairly open country and often see game cross canyon so I sight in for the longer shots and am covered on the shorter shots.

You might want to check out Maximum Point Blank, MPB, range in one of the recent loading manuals. This method establishes a 100 yd. PI for the maximum range to keep your bullet in a given dia. circle. This means for a 6" dia. kill zone your bullet will be 3" high at mid point and 3" low at the MPB distance. Larger game my allow a larger dia. kill zone. Now, if you can estimate range well enough to know your target is within the MPG range, you can just aim for the vital area and fire. You know it will hit within +/- 3" or so of that point. This generally extends your zero point well out past the 200 yd. zero that used to be the standard for scoped hunting rifles.

Where I hunt, 200 yards would be extremely long.

For my 45/70, i have that thing dead nuts at 100 yards. For my longer rifles, I zero them at 200-300, depending on the cartridge. Thats for targets though. I like bow range with my 45/70, or just my bow!
