Savage dropped the .260 & 7MM-08 ???
I was having a hard time making up my mind on a new rifle, but it seems Savage may have eleminated my choices!
I have wanted a 7MM-08 for some time now, but having a .308 and 7MM Rem. magnum already, I have started looking at the .260 and the 25-06.
I want a heavy barreled, Tactical/long-range rifle for varmint and deer hunting.
My choices were a 110 Tactical, it had the caliber I wanted, the .260.
The other was the 112 BVSS. That is the rifle I really liked, but it did not come in .260, the best I could do was the 25-06.
I just went to Savage' s web site and it seems they have dropped the 110 Tactical and the .260 and 7MM-08 altogether!
So it appears that they have narrowed my choices for me!
112 BVSS, 25-06!
What are your thoughts on the rifle and the caliber?
Anyone know why they dropped the .260 and 7MM-08?

Frank, to my knowledge Savage never chambered any rifle in 260 Rem. At least not yet. I am sure they will soon if enough customer interest is generated. Now as far as the tactical being chambered in 7mm-08 Rem, the only ones I ever saw or heard of were 223 Rem and 308 Win. You can get a standard weight rifle in 7mm-08 Rem still.

Frizz, the one I saw chambered for the .260 and 7MM-08 was in the 2002 shooters bible. It was a 110 Tactical, I believe. I left my shooters bible at work, so I don' t have the exact model with me. I' ll look it up tomorrow night. Anyway, I did not see even the model or the calibers on their web site today.
Any thoughts on the differences .260 vs. 25-06? As I said, if I did not already have a .308 and 7 mag, my choice would be the 7MM-08, hands down!
I just want something in the smaller calibers, to complement the battery!

They dropped the 260 chambering last year but it was only in the sporter weight rifles not the tactical.I just checked their new catalog I got last week and they are only chambering the 7mm-08 in models 10/11/and 16 which are all sporters.I never remember them ever chambering the 7mm-08 or 260 in tactical.Bet it was a misprint in your gun book,I' ve seen that before.Wouldn' t be any big deal to rebarrel a tactical to 260 or 7mm-08 however, with savage the barrel nut makes that easy.

I had a left Hand bolt action Savage package gun in 260. I really liked the rifle and caliber. I fell on hard times and had to sell it but would highly reccomend the 260. Light recoil and pretty good ballistics. I had one 7mm-08 some years back in the Browning lever action rifle. The caliber was great but my rifle would not handle handloads very well and I got rid of it. I would someday like to pick up a 7mm08 in the model seven Rem.

James I have heard of alot of people who had reloading problems with the BLR so you are not alone. As for a Mod 7 Remington, from what you have stated about your shooting ability, I do not think you will find it up to your expitations. Several of my customers who have had them have been very unhappy with the accuracy of the little rifle. I mention this because these guys can shoot, maby they expect too much from the 7 but from their and my experiance it is not an accurate rifle.
