Comparing it to a bow is not really valid. You know a broadhead kills by slicing through major arteries and organs provided the shot is good. No hydrostatic shock involved. A 22 caliber just doesn' t have enough ass to do the job properly out of a rifle, but a handgun? Thats even worse.

Comparing pistol energy levels to rifle energy levels is not going to help. The old dirdy/thurdy has more energy out to 100 yards than pistols. Game is killed by shot placement. velocity and bullet weight and bullet type/construction are a very close second and should match the game. Look at the defunct .264 Win Mag it had all the velocity any hunter needed, and it gained a reputation for bullets blowing up on impact, because the bullets in the 60' s where for the most part junk.
With todays bullet technology we can use calibers at the lower end of the scale per animal, if we direct are shot VERY CAREFULLY. But why take the risk of wounding game and have it die latter. Use an adequate cartridge and bullet.
This business of useing .22 cal centerfires on deer, or worse yet boar is ludicrous.
Even worse if you watch the outdoor channel you see hunters in Texas promoting this BS about 60 grain bullets @ 3500 fps for deer, and of course it always drops them in their tracks, at least on camera I wonder how many just got " creased" or " nicked" sure there be all right[X(]
. The slow death put to game by wounding does not make us hunters look to good, this is bad for us all[:' (]

Sure, its very very valid point I am making on comparing a bow and a 22 centerfire and pistols. If its killing by cutting, blood letting, hemorrhage or hydrostatic shock, man your putting a hole in something and then trying to do more damage while inside. Killing is killing. You better not tell those dead deer I kill with a pistol that I am undergunned. They never knew the difference.
Lets take this hypothetic situation. Your lost in the woods for weeks, you have a big buck 32 yards away from you. Your starving and its the only animal you have seen for weeks. Now first off, you have no loyalty to the bow or the gun. That is important. Your only concern is getting the animal down so you and your family don' t die. In you stand, you have a 22-250 with 55gr bullistic tips that cruises well past 3500fps from the muzzle and a PSE Mohave bow with Beman 400 hawks and 100gr muzzy broadheads. Your shot is totally unobstructed. What will you use. Think about this fairly and honestly.

Big country, I' d use the .22-250, if it' s only 32 yrds away, I guarantee every .22-250 I own could take it' s eye out, let alone be a safe bet on a head shot, even with a baby bullet that practically explodes on impact, put ANYTHING through the brain and it' s meal time, no tracking as even the best archery shot might present. I' d also get more shots off in the same time if need be, and could take longer and longer shots, whereas the bow would give me one, MAYBE two shots if I hauled on, one at 32yrds and one at 90, I shoot well enough at 66yrds, but the range a deer would be after a ' reload' would be unrealistic. In the same amount of time, I could take 3-5 well aimed shots with the bolt gun, even if the bow is a better bet as a hunter, the .22-250 would be my choice in your survival scenario.

We finally settled it with the DNR. I mean the dinner for 2 guys didn' t hurt too much, but being wrong does.
