springfield XD-9
so ive been debating on which 9mm i want and i was originally going to buy a Glock 17. After looking a few i picked up the XD and it is alot more comfortable for me.Ima 1911 fan, and i wasnt that impressed with "plastic guns" especially after looking at the SW M&P and the SW Sigma. I like external safetys and the grip safety for sure. I was just wondering what the opinions were with the 4'' service XD vs. the 5" tactical model. If anyone has any advice i would like to hear about it. thanks!

I have the XD-9 service (4") model and I absolutely love mine. Comfortable, points well, dead reliable and as accurate as any well made defensive pistol. I've had zero problems with mine. I traded in a Glock 21 to get it because the Glock just didn't fit my hands well and didn't feel right, not to mention that the trigger had a strange tendency to pinch my finger against the trigger guard (OUCH!). I wanted another pistol with similar features as the Glock Safe-Action, but in a more ergonomic design, and found it in the XD and haven't looked back.

My Father-in-law just got the XD in .40. It is quite nice and his package came with 4 mags, mag carriers, and a plastic belt holster. I'm not a fan of the grip safety, but lots of people like them and Glock doesn't offer it, so I can't blame Springfield for going after that niche in the market.
What puts Glock over the top for me is the short trigger reset. After the first round is fired, the trigger travel to reset for the next round is shortened. Once you train yourself to the trigger, it makes rapid fire much easier. When I practice, I can draw, empty 15, and reload with targets set for a 3 second face/reset. Sometimes I get lucky and get to pop one out of the next mag. Pro shooters go even faster.

RE: springfield XD-9
awesome thanks for the replys. it sounds like the 4 inch service is the most popular anyway. the store i was looking at had a pretty good price of about $480 for it....no if i could find some ammo i would be in good shape!!
