Default Rurer 77 MK II Frontier???

I looked at the Ruger 77 MK II Frontier today. It felt really good for a short rifle and would make a great hunting rifle for "box blinds".
I don't really like the forward mounted scope, but I don't remember seeing conventional scope mounting taps! Does anyone know if it comes tapped for regular scopes or would I have to have it drilled/tapped? Also, does the .243 or 7MM-08 shoot well from a 16 1/2" barrel?

Can't say for sure about the 243 but the 7mm-08 shoots real well from the 15 inch Encore barrel so it should shoot very well from a 16.5 inch. Velocities may fall about 200 fps behind a 22-24 inch barrel. This leaves plenty left over though. I have not seen one in our area yet. Guess the stach coach is running a little late.

Ruger Target Grey M77 Mark II Frontier Rifle with forward scope and Weaver-style scope adapter. (Scope not included.)

** Patented integral scope rings that attach directly to the receiver's percision-machined mounting surfaces, eliminating a potential source of looseness and inaccuracy in the field (included at no extra cost).

Thanks James! If you like the Ruger MK II and small rifles, I'd be waiting at the stage coach stop! It has a nice grey laminate stock. I just don't care for the forward scope mount!

I believe that they come with the option to mount normally included in the box. However, I would suggest that if this gun would be usedi mainly 150yrd or less situations while stalking on the ground, then try the forward mounted scope. I know it does not 'feel' right, but if your target/area/reflexes allow for minimal aquisition time, then there is really not a better set-up. It allows you to aquire your target with both eyes open, a major advantage, and then shut your non-dominant eye for a quiker precise shot. If you are interested, I can give you some more info on this. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jerry! I know the practicality of this, but it just doesn't look normal! That gun sure has a nice feel to it though!
