RE: .270 Win or 30-06 Springfield?
I have the CDL in .30-06. I went with that caliber specifically because I wanted to go for elk & moose. If I were to go strictly for deer, however, I'd step down in caliber. Shooting the '06 isn't bad at all, but I can't keep the sight picture in the scope after a shot: I have to reacquire the target.
I was actually perilously close to getting yet another CDL in 7mm-08 right around Christmastime, but I held my breath 'til the urge had passed!
I'd say go for the .270, or even 7mm-08 or .25-06. They'll shoot plenty flat, and have more than enough power to ruin any deer's day. If they're more pleasant to shoot, then that means that they'll be...more pleasant to shoot! Whatever you can shoot lots, and do it comfortably, will be the most deadly caliber.
Oh, by the way, your rifle choice ROCKS! You'll have the sexiest weapon in hunting camp!

7mm-08 is a great choice for deer and i would highly recommend it.
I would go 30.06 in your case. the only reason i say this is, what if you decide to hunt bigger game in the future? the 30.06 can handle heavier bullets and has a greater selection. the 30.06 to me is the all around caliber.

I should be receiving my CDL .270 this week. I ordered it last week and I am having the dealer do the trigger work before I pick it up. He had a CDL in 30-06 on the shelf but I wanted the 270. We checked the trigger on the 30-06, it was set at 6.75 pounds si i figured it was best to get it worked right away.

I shot the 06 for yrs with the core lokt. I had absolutly no complaints with it. The last three yrs I've hunted with the 270 and did'nt fare as well using the core lokts with it. I have started using ballistic tips and now I ca'nt find anything to critisize the 270 for. But for some reason I find myself pulling the old 30/30 down more often now as I head out to the deer woods.
