i would go with either,...
ruger 10/22 in 22mag or 22long. i shot my girlfriends brothers'. sweet rifle and no jams. i own a winchester 9422 in 22WMR and is a tack driver at 50 yds with iron sights.
bith are awsome and never had a problem with. but the winchester was alot more than the 10/22

First thing, don't buy anything but a semi-auto!!! It's a waste of time to pump or throw a bolt for an inch and a half.
I'll throw a tube-fed in the mix. My Favorite tack driving .22lr is the Marlin model 60. Best thing about them is, They are very accurate, but also they are incredibly easy to take down and therefore easy to throroughly clean or find defects yourself, plus, they cost around a hundred less than the Ruger 10/22, and you get 16 shots instead of 10, right out of the box. My first .22 was a Marlin 99-M-1a, which is a model 66 that looks a like an M-1carbine, it's from the 1950's, and it still punches paper like no other. I've owned a 10/22, and a couple non-semis (which I'll never own again), and now I'm back to my new marlin 60, and so glad I came back!!!!
Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!

The ruger 10-22 costs about 160, so if the Marlin model 60 is 100 less, then it would be a 60 gun. I have a hard time believing that, but maybe it's true....anyways, I highly recommend the ruger 10-22. I have had one for about 5 years now, and I have fired tens of thousands of rounds out of it. I have never had a jam, and I have gone about 5000 rounds without cleaning. one fine day at the range, I put 50 magazines (50 rounds) all in a 1 inch hole at 50 yards. The 10-22 is very accurate, and very smooth and easy to shoot well. It is fast, reliable, and accurate, and in my opinion, the best 22 rimfire you can buy. Get the 10-22 and you will not be disappointed in any way.

For a bolt gun, I'd go with the CZ, they make some standard models that should discount for around $200. They are a very accurate gun for the money.
For a semi-auto the 10/22 is a good pic, but still will not be as accurate as a good .22 bolt gun, unless tweaked a bit.
"Lord, make me fast and accurate."

"First thing, don't buy anything but a semi-auto!!! It's a waste of time to pump or throw a bolt for an inch and a half." I can't tell you how many times I have been in the woods and heard that bone chilling sound of spray and pray coming from a semi-automatic 22. To me a semi is a waste of time. Have you ever seen how accurate a Marlin 25MN or 880 is? The other thing is how many semi's can shoot shorts, longs and long rifles?
