Default 7600 Range Rpt - I got a shooter!!!

Today I made it to the range for the first time with my new Rem 7600 7mm-08. Boy, you guys were sure right about the trigger!! Pull weight is a little over 7Lbs, and it's definitely got some creep, but it breaks real clean. I've definitely got to get a trigger job done on it. The trigger took some getting used to with groups starting out at about 1 1/2" at 100 Yds, but the more I shot it the better the groups got. By the end of the range session I was averaging about MOA with a few great groups toward the end.

Here is some pics of some of the latter groups I got. These were shot with Hornady 154Grn RN on top of H414. It's a load that shot well in my Rem 700 Mtn LSS so I thought I'd give it a go in the 7600. The dark lines are 1/2" and the lighter ones are 1/4"

I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am that this gun turned out to be a shooter. I heard all kinds of claims about the 7600's accuracy or lack thereof...everything from a 2+" to sub MOA. After todays range session, I have no doubt that with a good trigger job and some load development this rifle will be a consistent sub MOA performer!
I gota tell ya....I'm definitely a happy camper!!!

Those groups are so typical of the 7600. Those rifles will shoot 1 1/2 inches or better every time out with almost any load. I have owned six or seven of them and every one shot under 1 1/2 inches the first time at the range and just seem to get better. There is really not a more dependably accurate rifle out there. I mean one that I would beat on to beat 1 1/2 inches. I think you could take 100 of them out of the box and shoot almost idenical groups. Consistant as hell.Glad you like it. JOIN THE CLUB.

Hehehehe Dare I say it...Yet ANOTHER extremely satisfied "NEW" Remington customer!! Also once again..another tack driving "NEW" Remmy!! Congrats First..not only is it a looker but shooter as well.

I have been checking around on trigger jobs for my 760 as well First...lemme know what ya come up with. Nearest I can tell a spring change and smoothing everything up is about the extent of what could be done. It sure would be nice to be able to get an aftermarket. My old 760 300 Savage has shot everything I have tried in it under 2 inches so far and its 54 years old so I would think its safe to say the Rem pumps are now and have always been good shooters.

54 years old?? Its still a spring chicken.. The best shooter I had in that rifle was a 270 but my 30-06 Carbine was a darn close second. The last 30-06 I had shot one inch with the Federal Blue Box 150 garin Speer GS's. Needless to say, thats as far as I ever looked

I've got one with the parkerized finish and synthetic stocks, I call it my knocking around gun lol. I don't worry about scratches or dings.I shoot 165 grn tbbc's through it and I love it. I have been wanting to get my trigger worked on also, but I don't really use this gun much where I have to shoot long range. One of my bolt guns has a timney trigger and the other has a trigger job, so me saying that I love the 7600/760 is saying something!

Thanks guys!!! Just got to say that I'm sure tickled with it!

So where does the pump rifle get this "less than stellar accuracy" reputation? You sure couldn't prove it by me!!! My 7600 is already shooting as well as my Rem 700 Mtn LSS for which I have spent a LOT of time developing loads for.

I've had a bit of experience with the 760. I got my first one in 1956, and have had 5 others since. I had extractor problems with one, and returned it to Remington for repair, but had no other problems. All of them were very good shooters.

Living in Pa. during the '60's, and '70's,I did quite a bit of competitive rifle shooting. Before deer season, the club I belonged to would open up the range on Sundays at no chargefor hunters to sight in their rifles. The club members assisted, and usually ended up shooting at least 1 group with every rifle. Weshot many (dozens?) of 760's. Seldom would we find one that wouldn't shoot well. The triggers were lousy, but those suckers would shoot. The problem, is that many (most?) of the owners could not shoot well, even from the bench. While most of us with a scoped 760 woulddrop 3 shots into 1 1/2 inch at 100 yds, the average ownerdid wellto keep his shots in a 6 inch bull. Perhaps some of the inaccuracy tales had their beginnings with owners such as these, but in my not-so-humble opinion, the 760/7600 is a damned accurate, and relatively trouble free hunting rifle.

A little off subject, I just wanted to say my 3yr old nephew is named Remington. He was also born on my B-Day. Pretty cool.

Ive got a mid 70's rem 760 in 308. Bought it from my uncle about20 years ago. It will shoot cloverleafs at 100 yards all day long. I laugh when people say those cheap remington pump guns arent accurate theyre just lead throwers,, you have to have a free floating barrel to be accurate...
I tell them Ill put up a $100 and Ill shoot my pump you shoot your bolt and I gaurantee at 100 yards my groups are just as tight..

Look at the gun they are a free floating barrel, and darn accurate.. People want too believe what they want too believe,, but there are some of us that know the truth! rem pumps are excellent hunting rifles,, only draw back is that darn rattle when walking,, holding the slidebars solves that problem but it is a bit annoying.

Timney triggers used too make aftermarket triggers for them,, not sure if they still do or not.
