I think most of the time, its the less than perfect trigger that gives the idea that they are not accurate. If a guy is used to a short no creap light trigger then the 7600 is not gonna feel that good. To me a bad trigger has more to do with accuracy that the next three things together. However with a little getting used to, the triggers are not that bad. They do have a free floated barrel and rotary locking bolt that contrubites to their accuracy.

I read an article by Jim Carmichel where at one time, some military shooting teams competed with 7600-760 Remingtons with Heavy 222 barrels.

I have had a lot of rifles in my life. Two of the most accurate were two of the most unlikely candidtaes for this. One was a 760 Remington in 270, the other, a Savage O/U with a 30-30 top barrel. With Ballistic tip bullets, I shot three shot 3/4 inch groups at 200 yards. And did it several times. I couldn't believe it but after doing it several times with both rifles, I decided it had to be true.

They don't all shoot that well but the 760/7600's are next to impossible to shoot groups over 1 1/2 inches unless you really try.

You may be right about the trigger. Mine came from the factory at about 6 1/2 Lbs pull weight and a LOT of creep. Already talked to my gunsmith, who has done several trigger jobs for me previously, and he is going to take care of it aftter the first of the year.

I have a 760 in -06' and a 7600 in 270. I like both guns but hate both triggers. I've asked a few gunsmiths about trigger jobs and have had 3 tell me they cant\wont do anything for them.

Have any of yal had the triggers tuned on them? I set most of my bolt action at 2.5lbs or less and from being used to a light no creep trigger, I just don't take those guns out of the safe much anymore.

I'm going to havemy primary gunsmith, Rick, take the creep out and lighten it to about 3 to 3 1/2 lbs pull weight. I've got the trigger on my Rem Mtn LSS set at about 2 1/2Lbs, but I don't think I want the trigger on this pump quite that light. At any rate, I'll let you know how it turns out.

FYI: I did call another gunsmith in the area that I sometimes use when Rick's booked up and he told me he didn't work on 7600 triggers.

I have a 7600 carbine in 06 and use a Williams peep sight without the insert. I painted the edge of the sight red and have a fire dot red front bead. I use the gun when I hunt the thicker woods of Northern Maine and New Hampshire. When hunting in snow it is easy to acquire the target and if you see brown through the sight it is down. It is pretty compact and light to carry without a scope and works like a charm as a fast shooting brush gun. I load with factory Federal 180 gr Nosler Partitians. My only problem with the setup was that the gun came new with a monte carlo style stock (made for a scope). I worked with Remington and they sold me a straight stock from a rem 20 ga shotgun that fit right on the action without any gun smithing. It is now similar to the older version of the 760. The accuracy is puzzling for me. I usually sight in at 50 - 100yds on the range and the darn thing groups better than some of my scoped rifles. I thought I had something special but now I can read that there are others who share my experience with a 7600.

I shot a peep sight on my Marlin 39A .22LR for a while. I was surprised at how accurate you could shoot with a peep. However, I had problems picking the squirrels out of the leaves when using the peep so wound up putting a scope on it.

I've got Leupold quick release rings and Weaver bases on my 7600. I'd like to be able to take the scope off when the situation dictated and pop a Peep sight on. I saw a post somewhere where someone had a peep that would mount right toweaver bases.....need to go see if I can find it.

The peep that mount to a base is made by eabco. Don't know if they will make it for you but the ones they have are for a T/C Omega or Encore rifle/muzzleloader. You could have your gun tapped for this unit. It is called the peep rib sight.
You can contact them at www.eabco.com it is actually E. Arthur Brown Company I think is the name.
I have one of these on my Omega muzzleloader and it works really good. Shot 3 deer with it this last year.
Hope this helps.

The Remington 7600 is one of the most under rated rifles on the market. I have worked up loads for a few and bolt action like accuracy is a given. 1"MOA results are quite common with the right loads in those rifles.
