RE: 7600 Range Rpt - I got a shooter!!!
I think most of the time, its the less than perfect trigger that gives the idea that they are not accurate. If a guy is used to a short no creap light trigger then the 7600 is not gonna feel that good. To me a bad trigger has more to do with accuracy that the next three things together. However with a little getting used to, the triggers are not that bad. They do have a free floated barrel and rotary locking bolt that contrubites to their accuracy.
I read an article by Jim Carmichel where at one time, some military shooting teams competed with 7600-760 Remingtons with Heavy 222 barrels.
I have had a lot of rifles in my life. Two of the most accurate were two of the most unlikely candidtaes for this. One was a 760 Remington in 270, the other, a Savage O/U with a 30-30 top barrel. With Ballistic tip bullets, I shot three shot 3/4 inch groups at 200 yards. And did it several times. I couldn't believe it but after doing it several times with both rifles, I decided it had to be true.
They don't all shoot that well but the 760/7600's are next to impossible to shoot groups over 1 1/2 inches unless you really try.
