Is the .308 really second class to the .30-06?

Well hey, you know, when you live in your mom's basement reading Soldier of Fortune all day long I guess you just lose touch with......um.......that thing....that thing yousaid? Reality? yeah reality. I guess that's it I don't know, my mom is calling me. It's time for dinner and my meds.

So, Brutal, does this mean that you are backing off of your original claims:
You said the .308 Win. is faster, flatter, more ft.lbs., better trajectory than the .30-06. OBVIOUSLY not true. Are youretracting this now? You say the '06 is a bit of a dog compared to "most other modern big game cartridges." If that's true, and the '06 clearly shoots flatter/faster, etc. than the .308, then what does that make the .308? A bit of a cat?

That isn't opinion man. That is fact. The .308 does indeed outperform the venerable -'06. Just look at the numbers both ft/lbs and trajectory. In fact when compared to most other modern big game cartridges, the '06 is a bit ofa dog. It owes it's popularity to the WWII generation and it's now starting to be outclassed by the newer, faster and flatter shooting rounds.
As far as the '06 being superior for elk sized game. I disagree. I'd rather have a .308 with a 180 gr. bullet than a '06 with a 200 gr. bullet. It has nearly the energy and it's flatter.

The trajectory is almost identical at 300 yards. The muzzle energy is within 200 ft/lbs and in the case of the .308 High Energy it's the same as the "normal" .06. Trajectory is also the same with a 150 gr. bullet.
So Fatcounty said that no way in hell a .308 could come within 80 fps of the .06. So I posted the numbers to show that it could get there with factory ammo and could certainly get there and probably surpass the '06 if handloaded.
In almost any equal bullet weight, the .308 is just barely, and I mean barely behind the '06 and if you use High Energy and Light Magnum then it's equal and in some cases better.
As for the .06 being a dog well just look at itcompared to a .280. It's flatter and has nearly the same energy. You're aren't really gaining anything for the extra recoil.

If you reload for both, the 30-06 will provide 150-200 fps more velocity than the 308. To me in the field, the difference is not important but for the sake of pure numbers, the 30-06 has a bit more powder space and will always have a bit of an edge. If you like the short action better use the 308. If you prefer a little more velocity from heavier bullets and don't mind the longer action, the 30-06 is for you.

Hey tard, you do realize that hornady also makes a so called "light magnum" for 06 too right?
I realize the 308 may be the only gun you own, thats the reason for this strange dialogue on here. I kinda understand it because when I was your age, I defended my trusty 270win to the end.

No I won't retract. The only load that the .308 doesn't out perform is the Light Mag or High Energy loads.

Then one expands ones horizons a bit and then recognizes the "error of ones ways."
