ORIGINAL: ipscshooter

So, Brutal, does this mean that you are backing off of your original claims:

You said the .308 Win. is faster, flatter, more ft.lbs., better trajectory than the .30-06. OBVIOUSLY not true. Are youretracting this now? You say the '06 is a bit of a dog compared to "most other modern big game cartridges." If that's true, and the '06 clearly shoots flatter/faster, etc. than the .308, then what does that make the .308? A bit of a cat?
No I won't retract. The only load that the .308 doesn't out perform is the Light Mag or High Energy loads.

The trajectory is almost identical at 300 yards. The muzzle energy is within 200 ft/lbs and in the case of the .308 High Energy it's the same as the "normal" .06. Trajectory is also the same with a 150 gr. bullet.

So Fatcounty said that no way in hell a .308 could come within 80 fps of the .06. So I posted the numbers to show that it could get there with factory ammo and could certainly get there and probably surpass the '06 if handloaded.

In almost any equal bullet weight, the .308 is just barely, and I mean barely behind the '06 and if you use High Energy and Light Magnum then it's equal and in some cases better.

As for the .06 being a dog well just look at itcompared to a .280. It's flatter and has nearly the same energy. You're aren't really gaining anything for the extra recoil.
