As for the .06 being a dog well just look at itcompared to a .280. It's flatter and has nearly the same energy. You're aren't really gaining anything for the extra recoil.
I'm not sure you ought to be claiming the .30-06 to be a dog compared to the .280. Using a 150 gr. bullet, the .30-06 is closer to the .280 than the .308 is to the .30-06. The 150 gr. .280 has a slightly better ballistic coefficient, so it loses velocity a littlemore slowly, and, sighted in at 200 yards, it drops about an inch and a half less than the 06 at 500. I've got a dollar that says there is NO measurable difference in recoil between a 150 grain .280 and a 150 grain .30-06. And, the .280 fallsbehind the 06 when using heavier bullets.
