That isn't opinion man. That is fact. The .308 does indeed outperform the venerable -'06. Just look at the numbers both ft/lbs and trajectory. In fact when compared to most other modern big game cartridges, the '06 is a bit ofa dog. It owes it's popularity to the WWII generation and it's now starting to be outclassed by the newer, faster and flatter shooting rounds.
As far as the '06 being superior for elk sized game. I disagree. I'd rather have a .308 with a 180 gr. bullet than a '06 with a 200 gr. bullet. It has nearly the energy and it's flatter.
You said the .308 Win. is faster, flatter, more ft.lbs., better trajectory than the .30-06. OBVIOUSLY not true. Are youretracting this now? You say the '06 is a bit of a dog compared to "most other modern big game cartridges." If that's true, and the '06 clearly shoots flatter/faster, etc. than the .308, then what does that make the .308? A bit of a cat?
