I have one in .35 whelen and it shoots well enough. The only problem I have seen with one was really operator error. My cousin had one in 30/06 and he didn't have any shells so borrowed some frome my brother. The shells were reloads first fired in my brothers bolt action. They were tight in the action of the cousins pump and it would not close up on them. Of course he discovered this while a white-tail buck was walking peacefully accross a hill side 125 yards form us.

ORIGINAL: glazer1972I have never had a Remington pump rifle but would choose one way before I would choose another of there semi-jam-amatics.
IMHO, a 7600 @ $500+ isn't a very good value, compared to what is avail for that kind of money.

$525 is the going rate for new 7600s here in northern Maine. Great gun that oftentimes gets little respect. I'd guess that detemining if it is a good value is based solely on you. My 7600s have shot better out of the box than any 700 I have owned.
However another option is the used market is you really have your heart set on one. Our local shops usually have minty 7600s in a variety of calibers for $300-$350 which I believe is a very good value.

NY Archer,
Search for a Browning Pump Rifle (BPR). Browning quit making them about 7 or 8 years ago from what I remember. Same lines, shape and size as their BAR. The 7600 can not compare in terms of fit and finish. BPR's may still be found new if you look long and hard. Check the gun shows and compare side by side BPR vs. 7600.
I sold my 7600 '06 carbine after shooting a couple of deer, just could not stand the trigger. Final straw was when I could not reverse the safety for left-hand operation, as I did on my BAR.
Another option is the Browning BAR, beautiful gun. I Own one in 300wm and have never had a bit of a problem with it. Accurate, reliable, a true piece of art. Just my 2 cents worth...
