I never said I didn't like the 30-30...I used my marlin all of last year...pretty much...

They are good guns..but personally I'd rather use a .270

My cousin has a 7 mag...i carried it around some of last year too..but i'd rather use the .270...so i know jsut b/c a gun has more power doesn't really mean its better...i was just giving my opinion.
I feel pretty much the same way. I cannot shoot the 7mm very well because of the kick. I am a 5'11 guy weighing the in the 230# neighborhood but have had shoulder problems and my neck is pretty bad off too, so the kick of a 7mm is just too much to be able to shoot very many times in a year. The .270 is my gun of choice for wide open shots, its what I take when I know that I will be in open areas. But for banging around in the brush and woods, theres nothing better than a lever action 30-30.

Well mine is a 1895 in 45-70 and it will group from 1"-1 1/2" for 3 shots when I have a scope mounted. But I much prefer it with williams receiver sights, just looks and handles so much better. Also will still shoot 3" groups and that aint bad for open sights. The Marlin firearms co has designed a lever action rifle that will shoot tighter groups than many bolt action rifles. One other thing I'd mention is the Wild West trigger, a worthwhile upgrade for the Marlin.

15... sounds about right... and afflicted with a case of bigger-is-better magnumitis. You'll come back around in, oh, 30 years.

That is too funny, but at the same time is also true. I used to be a bigger is better guy myself, but have been forced to come back down to earth. That is why I now shoot the .270 and now an 1894 44 Magnum levergun. The 44 handles like the 336 30-30 but carries a bit bigger bullet. Went ahead and let my son have the 30-30. Great guns. You just dont need anything else for shots under 150 yards. There may be better guns for different occasions, but for all around effectivness the 30-30 takes the cake.
