If you are really attracted to a "short mag", I would consider a 270 or 300 WSM rather than 25 WSSM. If you are not hung up on short actions, you really can't go wrong with 25-06 for the usages that you described. Good luck with your decision.

If I wanted a 25,I would neck the 270wsm down to .257".It should provide ballistics close to that of the 257wby,but in a shorter action.It might possibly be the ultimate sheep cartridge.
