I am looking for a 22-250 for varmit hunting and deer hunting. I don't have a whole lot of money to spend on one so what brand do you refer and how much does it cost. Thanks a lot.

Either the rem 700 bdl varminter or the Ruger 77 Varmint rifle. I own the remington, and it is a great gun. Affordable and great accuracy. The ruger is even better in my opinion except for one major flaw. As is common with Rugers, the trigger pull is very stiff.

If you are willing to have a new trigger put into the Ruger (about $80), that would be my choice. Both rifles are in the mid $400s.
Good luck.

If you want something for varmints and deer, try a 243, 257 Roberts or a 25-06. A 22-250 is just too light for deer sized game.

ruger, winchester, savage, remingtington, it dont matter. though like frizzellr said you should take a step up in caliber, i personally would go with the 25-06, great trajectory, easy to make brass, walmart carries ammo,
if you are dead set on the 22-250 for the caliber, use nosler partions or some deep penetrating bullet.

If money is a serious issue look at the savage 111 or the Remington ADL.....I have both in 22-250 and both are tack drivers and botha re under $400. I'm with the others here and if you want a gun for both go with the .243. But hey!! I'm not you so shoot what you want. If the 22-250 is legal for deer (it's not here in WY) then shoot a good solid bullet.

I second the motion on the Savage. Also, if you really want to keep costs down you might look for a used Remington Model 788. They shoot extremely accurate. I had one, and harvested 7 whitetails with it besides a dump truck load of Red Fox.

Even if you do shoot a decent bullet out of a 22 centerfire, and as far as I know there is only one and that is the Nosler Partition 60 grain, your sectional density pretty much sucks, even the partition in .224 doesn't hold up that well, and you still aren't going to have enough knockdown to make an ethical kill. Use varmint cartridges for varmints. If you want to shoot deer then get a cartridge worthy of doing the job.

I'm with Frizzelr on this one...I like the 243 in a varmint cartridge and personally have seen a 180 class Mulie harvested in a Alfalfa field in Colorado and it was a one shot kill...the Lady was using a Remington varmin rifle...I like the Ruger varmint rifle better but the trigger has to be replaced or reworked but so does the Remingtons's.
