can anyone give me some opinions on a good, affordable GPS?
i was looking at the Garmins and they all seem to have the same descriptions
I am looking to do simple functions (waypoints, routing, etc) and would like to be able to put points on maps (if that isn't too much $$)
any info/insight would be helpful
thanks

I purchased a Garmin Etrex Venture from www.trendyimports.com , they had the best prices I could find on GPS's.

doughboysigep,
I've had a Garmin 12 for several years now, and love it. It has plenty of features for hunting, but not a lot of extras that you don't need. It usually runs for $149.00 . If you buy the data cable, you can download updates to the software from Garmin's web site. Good luck.

I purchased the Garmin eMap this summer and no regrets. It has a large display and has the maps for traveling. I used it for hunting and it was a good tool to have. Plan on using it this winter for ice fishing. The only thing is that it's water resistent and not water proof.
Good Luck.

I have an old Magellan GPS 300 that I like. No mapping, but it will do routes and will go up to 99 landmarks, 4-character names. I got it for free, so I don't complain. I also have experience with a Garmin 12 - a few more features than my Magellan, and at the price quoted above, probably worth it.

I bought a Lowrance I Finder, for 200. Its rather complicated and has more features than a body needs. A friend has a Garmin Etrex and loves it, says its very simple to operate. Cabelas has them with a rebate till the end of the month
