Kimber Classic help
#1
I have a full size Kimber 1911 Classic in 45. Ive had the gun for a few years now and havea prob with bullet impact and the non-adjustable sights. I have reloaded and purchased aton of different loads for it and all have the same problem. The sights are the original that came with the gun.
I was wondering was is there anyway tochange the point of impact without buying new adjustable sights. At 20yards the gun hits about 6inches straight left. Ive had other shooters try it and had the same issue. Thx in advance.

Yes they arethe stock dovetails(no dots) that came withit but I cant getthem to move. I removed set screw gave it some taps to putting it in vice and hitting it pretty good. It wouldnt budge. I figured a gunsmith is way to go to move it but I wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something.

ORIGINAL: HairtriggerIs the rear sight in a dovetail? If so the sight can be tapped to the right just a bit
Get some penetrant in the set screw hole and around the edges of the mating surfaces and let it soak for a day. Try using a brass nosed dovetail drift (not sure if this is the exact term - a guy at the armorer's had one, not sure if you buy them or make them).Get the slide off the frame before doing any wacking.

Is the top of the slide under the rear dovetail smooth? When I remove the set screw it looks like there is a hole or notch in the top of the slide thatthe set screwgoes down into to center the rear sight. Its hard to see through the small hole but thats what it looks like. I have some break free so I'll give that a try.

You don't need any punches or break free. Kimber puts their sights on very tightly in the dovetails. Break free isn't going to help. Just hit the rear sight with a leather mallet or a nylon hammer after you remove the screw. It's not going to hurt anything and the leather or nylon will not damage the finish. Brass punches are just going to deform and squish and leave brass marks all over your gun and sight that you will have to remove.
Do not do this with the front sight. You will break off the blade.
