Im trying to get a little insight into the pro/con of these two typed of bases. im mounting my 22-250 w/ a leo vx-III 6.5-20 x 40 w/ 30mm tube scope. ive done some searching for answers but have had mixed results. from what i understand the std bases allow for some play in adjustments provided the scope cant go that far. my question is if this is usually necessary. i dont like to introduce more movable pieces than necessary in my guns. any insight?

I have both on my guns. My bud has about 25 guns all Rem 700s all have Leupold DD rings. None of thescopes(all Leupold VX III's)needed adjustments that werent there because of the DD. I think the DD look better but I would make sure you lap the rings before you install the scope.
On the other hand Ive never had thosewindage adjust screws on the std mounts come lose or be a problem. I lap them also before I install. I know this prob didnt help much but I think youll be fine with the DD's

I started using the DD about 10 years ago...The gun shops around here didn't even stock them...they all used standard, and tried to convince me that they were the way to go...I guess I have put them on 10-12 rifles, Remingtons, Brownings and Rugers...No problem with any of them, the scope had plenty of adjustment, I just feel that the DD are a better/stronger setup...
If you have a WW-II Mauser and had it customized, you might need the added adjustment in the Standard Leupold, but I don't think its necessary
with any modern rifles...I have had some guys say the Standards are better, so you can keep the scope "optically centered"...but they haven't convinced me yet, since a 22-250 doesn't have much recoil the standards should hold up...but I prefer the DD...Good Luck....Enjoy that 22-250...

Unless, I have a target gun, I won't put anymore std base/rings on my guns. I did for years. I liked the feature to center the windage, but with a scope that you will never adjust for windage, its a waste. Also centering the rings with a kit is easier with a DD setup as you can get alignment tools to touch and you think its centered, but the windage adjust on the rear rings can actually make it canted.
You don't find this out until you go thru the rigerous task of lapping. Which I am a big advocate of. It takes me sometimes 3 hours to lap andcold blue rings.
