I may be wrong, but the story I remember is Remington did voluntarily quit making them, because the other name for them is Cop Killers.
They penetrate the standard bullet proof vest. I haven't seen them in years, but I'm not looking for em either.
Who knows, maybe it's all just story???

The biggest resistance to them by policeis that since they are sabotted, there is no rifling on the bullet so they can't be traced.Almost any high powered rifle bulletswill penetrate police vests,so they are not unique in this way.

A few of you guys seem to think the same on this but honestly, trace a bullet by the rifling grooves on the bullet? And compare the rifling grooves you get to what? Plug them into the non existant database of rifle tracing marks? Anyone here have a rifle whose rifling imprints are on file with the FB* or AT*?(Too much CSI). Could it be remington quit making them cuz they just don't sell well and remington realized they would rather sell a new rifle than a new box of shells since the kinda guy who hunts predators or varmints regularly is the kinda guy who will shell out for a dedicated varmint caliber rifle?take care.
P.S If you know of actual use for the rifling marks please post, I would love to hear about it. Just seems crazy with +300 million guns in this country that someone has them all cataloged and ready for "tracing".

the point of the rifling isn't to check it to a real big database to find the crimnal (or criminal gun rather) but it's to prove that the bullet came from a specific gun. So if you find the person, it provides proof that the bullet came from their gun. That is my understanding atleast

I would have to agree that a "criminal" isn't going to walk into a store and pick up a box of these rounds to use. Anyone can still buy the materials necessary to handload one anyway.

the main reason remington quit making them was for the lack of leaving rifling.
but back to the origional quiestion. they do still make them. i bought a box of them a few months ago. they were $24.95 a box. definately not cheap. i haven't shot any of them. for varmint hunting with a 30-06 you might as well use the 125g. bullets. they're alot cheap and have better overall ballistics than the accelerators.

A standard 30-06 bullet will penetrate everything up to level IV body armor on its own.

This post just gave me an idea. I've been thinking of doing some coyote hunting. I've got a few boxes of Accelerators for my '06. I've had them for several years.(Now if I can only find them) I remember that their ballistics were very similar to a 22-250.
Thanks for the idea!
