Default RE: .30-06 Remington Accelerator 55 grain

I may be wrong, but the story I remember is Remington did voluntarily quit making them, because the other name for them is Cop Killers.

They penetrate the standard bullet proof vest. I haven't seen them in years, but I'm not looking for em either.

Who knows, maybe it's all just story???
If I wanted to shoot through a vest....I sure wouldnt use a 55 grain varmint bullet out of a 30-06. I think I would choose a FMJ. A heavy one. Of course, a FMJ would retain rifling marks...a varmint bullet would explode, making tracing the rifling marks tough. Still, if I had to make a shot at a vested target, I would want a tough bullet that would not come apart on the vest. I think I would still opt for the FMJ...even over a monolith. Dunno how well a round nose monolith would do on a vest and I imagine they arent as common as FMJs. I imagine it would take one helluva good vest to stop an '06 bullet and if I recall correctly, most vests are designed to stop handgun rounds. Even the mighty 44 Magnum is a wussy when compared to a medium rifle cartridge.
