Welcome to the board kraw
This is just my opinion but Ruger makes a fine rifle for a fair price. It is a solid rifle for the money and a set of rings comes with each model 77. I have had my Ruger model 77 for 11 years now and it has always preformed great. I would get the Ruger.

Kraw, Ruger has a 40.00 rebate on selected rifles. If i'm not mistaken the M-77 is one of them.I'm sure the rebate is still on,but I wouldn't wait much longer.Another thought Remington, Winchester, etc. might be a little cheaper. They don't come with scope rings or bases.By the time you buy them you're up to the price of the Ruger The Ruger's come with scope rings that attach directly to their mounts made right into the rifle. The Ruger rings are about a 60.00 value.I have a suggestion go to www.gunsamerica.com and look under rifles. You can select different makes and see what looks good to you.I have bought a few rifles through Gunsamerica and saved quite a bit doing so. You'll have to find a receiving dealer, which in my area runs on the average of 20.00.On gunsamerica they have lists of receiving dealers in your area. You have a 3 days return policy unless noted . Good luck finding what you are looking for.I do like my Ruger's and very happy with their scope mounting system. Ruger Redhawk

Kraw, I did a little checking for you. The Ruger rebate started August 1st and runs through November 30th. The rebates are on the following guns.M-77 MKII(except a few caliber 375 H&H, 416 Rigby etc.)
the M-77/44 and Super Redhawks. (Not the regular Redhawks)These are all 40.00 rebates. Now's the time to buy.
